I have a Red Tailed Boa, about 4 feet in length... And we have him in
a 50 gallon tank which he calls home at our apartment... Inside this
tank he has a water bowl, a twig type thing for him to climb on, a
plastic log (on the hot side), and a cave looking thing on the cold
side... Anyway... Here's my problem. Since getting this 50 gallon
tank in March, it's too heavy and awkward to move around... Our
families live 5 hours away and we visit them often. For the most part
we leave Bleys here because we only go from Friday evenings until
Sunday's sometime. But we would like to start taking him with us on
occasion. We were thinking about purchasing another tank to take with
us and leave at my in-laws house (where we stay). Since we already
have a heat mat to put under it... We were wondering if there was
another way to house him for our short visits. We worry that he won't
be happy in a rubbermaid container for that amount of time, and we
worry about his heat also! If anyone has any suggestions, please let
me know! Please email me at bleys@mraught.homeip.net with your responses!
Thanx!
Christa

Well for starters you should be able to leave your snake alone for up to a week easily if you have to. Granted his water will be a little stale, but it will kill him once in awhile. If he poops it's gonna smell real bad, but again they only go ever two weeks, so as long as it does not happen your first day gone, he's gonna be ok. I would not suggest taking him along with you, excess traveling will most likely stress him, but that's your call. Red Tails tend not to stress as easily as some other snakes so you may be ok. As far as cageing goes I would suggest getting a Vision model 422. They are plastic and much lighter than glass cages.
