Originally I posted this over on KS, since I didn't think a lot of people here have
experience with heat tape, but I could really use some help.
Does this look like it's hooked up correctly? I plug it into the wall and it is only getting
up to 81 degrees (it's supposed to get over 100) Any ideas? I feel really dumb.. lol

If its heating up then you more and likely have it hooked up properly.
Now if its not getting as hot as its suppose to then there is something with the current going in. Either its hooked up poorly, the power wire is weak, you power itself is weak or something is causing the heat to not distribute evenly (short in the tape or wire).
Hope that helps.

Looks like a flat panel from what I can tell and you really can't mess them up too bad at all. Unless you fold them.
As long as you followed the directions to a "T" and as Natas said, your power is sufficient (115-120 vAC on a 15 or 20 amp breaker) then you may have a deffective unit.
Check the power supply and if it is ok, then you may want to return it and get another one.

Hisba, When you use flexwatt in single 12in increments, it won't go nuclear. also it takes about 24-48 hours to reach high end temps. Also if there's proper air circulation it won't heat up to much. 11in flexwatt x 5ft can go nuclear if not careful. I don't use those clips anymore, I just solder the wires to the metal under the plastic. Here's how I do it.... My Flexwatt
Good Luck!!!
