Weekend Project - *COMPLETE*

Here I go getting ambitious again…

I wanted to work on this both Saturday and Sunday but things came up and I could only work on it Sunday. Around noon I went to home depot looking for some lumber to start working on my new cage idea.

This is what I came home with:

2 bundles of 1x2x8 18 each ( 95c/ea total $35.28 )
1lb Box of 1-1/4" course thread dry wall screws ($4.11)
1 bottle of Wood Glue ($3.67)
Tax $3.98
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grand Total: $47.04

Around 6pm, yes 6pm… it’s the wife's fault. I grabbed my cooler of beer and started working.
Disclaimer: Beer and power tools is NOT a good idea

First I made the basic floor frames, one screw and a lots and lots of wood glue for every connection, sticky but will be very strong.

Next I added a center support to the above and then started on the walls for each layer.

As I got the walls in place I would put the next floor in place.

So on and so on...

I have a saying… when the beer runs out, the party is over At 10:30, 4 and half hours later… This is what I came up with.
NOTE: This only used one bundle, 18 1x2's

As I progress I will update this thread. This evening I will stop on the way home and get some more beer and see about putting a back on this thing.

Looking good man...my only advice...that Elmers woodglue is MESSY. It runs everywhere and gets on everything. Get a caulk gun and a few tubes of liquid nails and your life will become much better.

Many people have stood in awe gazing at the egyptian pyramids wondering how exactly they were constructed in such primative times with such primative tools. I just wonder how they pulled it off thousands of years before beer was invented lol.

Yes, Yes it is. BUT I love it for two reasons. One, my dad glued two pieces of wood and told me to break it apart, I couldnt. I also, using two pipe clamps, glued two 1x6 boards and it was strong enough to plain them smooth without breaking.

Two, its VERY easy to clean up, little water and poof gone. Last night my hands were caked with glue, got in the shower and as soon as the water hit my hands the glue broke up.

I have not worked with liquid nails yet, but will look into it.

Yes, it will have plywood flooring and after I install that I will run two feet of 11" heat tape under each layer. The sides, inside and out will be tileboard.

Why not make tileboard floors too? It's easier to heat through than plywood and every bit as sturdy once you support it. Max's cage is 8 feet long. The top is a single piece of tileboard supported by a 2x2 every 2 feet. I can walk across it and have even jumped up and down on it and it didn't even creak....and have you ever seen me? lol. I'm 318 lbs. I have a 6x2x2 plywood cage that I did just the opposite of what you are doing. It has a tileboard floor heated well with 2 jumbo heat pads under it.
