Do snakes HAVE to mate to lay eggs ? I cleaned out my female pinesnake today and was shocked to find 8 eggs - she is 4 years old and I didnt know she had eggs inside , they are no good as I didn't know they were there she had got inbetween the paper and laid them - when I don't know, she is handled regularly she was a bit plump but I put that down to the mega rat she ate. She can be moody sometimes but this is normal for her lol ...

I know boas and birds can retain sperm but she has been by herself -

I have not read a great deal on breeding mainly because it would worry me if the snake retained eggs and got into trouble -

Though not real common Snakes have been known to produce infertile eggs without exposure to a male.
