Question about Het Determination
Ok I am a little confused as to this matter and hope someone can help. Im still trying to take a full hold of the genetics when it comes to snakes.
Now my question is how does one determine if a snake is Het for a certain morph. The poss het and 66% het I understand however I guess more specifically how does a breeder determine an animal is DH for snow or any morph that the clutch outcome is similiar where its not a simple Albinoxhet albino where you get albino or normal het albino. However with the snow i kno you get (in a clutch of 16) one snow some DH snow some Het anery. But my question is how do you determine the DH's. Forgive me if my workings of the genetics for the clutches in incorrect just tryin to paint a picture of te question i am trying to get answered. Thanx all help is appreciated.

Are you asking how you can look at a snake and say Yes it's Het or No it's Not? There is no way to tell. That is why there are 66% possible hets... in a litter that is the result of breeding het to het, all the normal babies are 66% possible hets... because you can't tell the difference.
The way you get double hets for snow, BTW, is from breeding an albino to an Anery. All the babies will be Double Het. A better way is to breed an albino that is het for anery to an anery that is het for albino. That way you get a much improved chance at the elusive snow AND all your babies are het for both traits.

Breeding trials are the only way to prove out a het trait if you are uncertain. Otherwise, pairing as described above will give you what Morti was saying.
