I'm looking to breed some burmese (possibly albino) and I was wondering if anyone has any particular opinions as to where I should go to get the pair. I'm thinking I would prefer to get something that's already breeding age so I don't have to wait forever to get started. I was looking at Bob Clark. Does anyone have any opinions on him? Also, should I buy from two seperate breeders to minimize the chance of inbreeding? Any information you could give is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Carl

have you studied what it takes to bred these animals???
have you calculated feedng, housing, and baby rearing costs???
also the price of burmese is not what you think it is. $40-50 for a normal, $80-100 for an albino.......$20-$35 wholesale
if you are still interested- i say go look on the classifieds! ou will find plenty of adult albino burmese there.....some from bob clark stock.
bob will not sell you one of his adult pythons.... he will sell you some of the babies though.
about bob! he is one of the top breeders of pythons around. if you want quality- you can definitly go with bob. i have bought animals off of him n the past and have actually had conversations with him! he is one cool dude and helpful to your needs or possible needs.
also go check out his forums.....they are cool too!
anyways, if you do decide to breed- good luck- and dont sell to kids.

WELCOME TO THE SITE!!
Like NYC said..BOB Clark is "the person" people tend to want burmese stock from..and I also doubt you'd get any of his breeding size stock either. Directly from him that is .
Why would you want to breed burms anyway ? inquiring minds wanna know
What is your experience with LARGE BOIDS even. From your post it sounds like you don't have any burms as yet even. These snakes are NOT for the inexperienced with large boids, especially no experience with burms at all ! Not saying you don't have experience that's needed, just don't know anything about ya is all. You do realize the potential growth of these snakes and what their husbandry requires..right ?
Like NYC said.. there are always HUGE burms listed in classifieds all over the place usually.
Well good luck anyway with what ya decide...

Personally, I think that the process of raising the animals to breeding size is essential because a) it givestime for honing husbandry skills, b) it ensures your animals are health, known quantities, and for big snakes c) helps ensure you know the personality of the animals from a time when they're not big enough to do you serious harm. Most burms are pretty docile, but in buying an adult animal, you'll still bet taking a chance on getting an agressive one. That said: Why burms??? That's a huge undertaking, in more ways than one.

Well, I've got a BCI right now and she's really thriving. I guess it's partly just the fact that I'm fascinated by the very large pythons. I know that it's a big undertaking but it's certainly an undertaking that excites me. Of course, I'm doing ridiculous amounts of research on every possible aspect of the husbandry before hand. I want to know exactly what I'm getting into before it's too late to find out that I'm over my head. I've got my copy of "Reproductive Husbandry" and I read every message board and care sheet I can get my hands on. I've read every post on Bob Clarks forum and every post on here as well. Snakes just fascinate the #$%^$%^$%^$%^& out of me and it's an interest that I'd love to expand.
Thanks,
Carl

It's just my opinion, based on my limited knowledge, but aren't there enough burmese out there already? Although I'm sure you could do a far better job than the pet industry, could does not always mean should. Please put a lot of serious consideration into this...

That's certainly a good point. I'm still keeping my options open. Is there a particular breed that's in shorter supply that I might want to consider? I'd prefer the snake not cost over 1000 dollars,
