OK, I want to become a breeder, but I don't want to breed some thing that is already too much of so, can anyone tell me a herp that is imported too much and one not many people breed?
The advice would be greatly appriciated Thanks.

Corn Snakes. Yes they are popular, but breed easily....usually anyways...

Plus they are inexpensive and their morph are unique.

Can't think of any off the top of my head, but for reptiles, I recommend Barry White CDs and lots of beer

Thats a tough one, Jesus. Here is the secret: Start with something you like, and find a way to breed that species. You can start with some criteria for which particular species you want to deal with, but to do it so broadly probably isn't a great idea. There are tons and tons of animals that are imported but not bred, and thats a great starting point. But then it gets tricky when you're competing with animals that are only selling because they're cheap. This is a big problem in the monitor community, since there is no way for you to simply break even breeding the big monitors. You can start with a species like that, but then you have to find a reason to get people to pay a reasonable price for yours. It's tricky stuff. Start by just breeding the stuff you have, and get a feel for the "industry" (or "racket", as I prefer). I'll warn you now though, it does take some of the fun out of herps. On the other hand though, you do get hooked on seeing babies pop out of eggs. =)

I want to start with ball pythons, Angolan Pythons, and Three speices of monitor but as I get older and go to collage I 'm going to start a herp vetrinary hospital/ pet shop/ breeding facility, But I will not just sell to anyone that thinks a animal is cute, they must have experience with other animals that are simalaror I'l show beginning costomers begginer animals such as small monitors, mid sized snakes, and so on, but I a want to sell my animals cheaper than any other breeder and all my animals will be very healthy. So, does anyone have any ideas on the three types of monitor I should breed?and I also want to breed Carpet pythons and RTBs of different locals and morhs.

If you want to breed something that isn't common, you will have to put up some decent money for your breeder animals. Angolans are a good one (goodness knows we'd love one someday, lol). Some of the rarer and harder to work with Asian ratsnakes.

Sometimes these things are hard to find because they are hard to breed....

That wouldnt be a good thing. All you'd be doing is low balling the market.

You have some amazing plans, but much easier said then done. Just start small. Don't get to ahead of yourself, I did the same thing and it caught up with me quickly. Get out of college first and figure out a more permenent home so to speak. When breeding in a large amount you need to have the space and the money to back you up. Im just going into college and I do have plans to breed but I dont have plans to make it a living, its extremely tough to do so.

Hi Jesustheherper,

Amarali "Bolivian" boas (BCA) and Madagascar Ground Boas are some nice boas that are not very common. I am just starting to get a nice breeding colony of Bolivian Boas. It will be a few years before I have any babies for sale.
Here are some pictures of my BCA.

Male BCA

Female BCA

Here is a picture of a Madagascar Ground Boa. If you get in to these guy make sure you are not sold a Dumeril boa that is being sold as a Madagascar Ground Boa. They look a lot a like so do your research on them before you buy them.

Here is a link for one more picture of a Madagascar Ground Boa.

If you like pythons better then I would breed the Boelen's Python. Someday I will try breeding these guys but for now I will stick with boas.

Just so you know it is very hard to make a living breeding reptiles so make sure you breed something you like your self. It makes it more fun because once breeding become just a job your reptiles will suffer for it. If you breed quality reptiles more then quantity you will have a much better name in the reptile industry. As for myself I only breed boas I like and if they breed for me that is great but if they don't that is just fine as they are my pets too. In most cases with breeding reptiles if you are braking even then you are doing good.

Take care
Tom
