Re: Snake science fair project

How specific do they have to be? Some actually require an "experiment" complete with hypothesis, controls..etc.
If it's just a demonstrative project, you could show how the shedding process occurs, or have diagrams outlining internal anatomy and use the actual snakes as live external anatomy examples, you could also show the digestive process from how a snake constricts (photos) and demonstrate the use of the teeth and jaws, and have illustrations for digestive process with pictures..

Yeah we need a hypothesis, experiment and documented results. I don't think any live animals can be harmed in the process. Maybe if we used someone else's feeding pics? Might rather skip the feeing pics though.

Re: Snake science fair project

if you have any very large boas you could see what they digest more quickly a rat or chicken

Re: Snake science fair project

Back when my kids were doing the 6th grade science fair projects we wanted to do a snake related project, but didn't find a reasonable project that could be finished within the given time frame. May I suggest: Free Science Fair Projects for 6th Grade in All Categories.

Re: Snake science fair project

you do have multiple boa localities correct? maybe you can discuss the differences between boas, subspecies and differences between them... environmental and physical as well as how some tend to be more arboreal then others...

Re: Snake science fair project

With the volumes of meticulous breeding records many of the members keep, perhaps a 3 generation photo documented lineage of a pair of snakes that may be expecting eggs to hatch soon.....the ever popular genetics study with a new twist from the " fruitflies" of old days.... hypothetical probabilties of how many different morphs, hybrids, new pattern could be expected,,,,and then hopefully see the results ? I personally find the contemporary hybrid breeding of snakes most interesting.
