It doesn't hurt to handle her right away for short periods of time. I wouldn't keep her out for hours though till she has time to check out her new digs and get comfortable. Ignore the strike mode thing...She may always appear to be that way. It's usually a bluff anyway...Just cup your hand and without hesitating cover her head with it and then pick her right up.

works for about everything John...they don't quite know how to react...if you poke and prod with a finger...even a tame snake might take a nip...but quickly but carefully covering their head puts them into kinda submission and once you have them lifted, then they are more concerned with adjusting to their new roost (your hand)...I use this on GTPs, Emeralds, Amazons etc and never get bit doing it this way. I don't suggest handling hots this way though.

straight on and in her face dude. just cover her head....DO NOT jerk your hand back and forth...trust me...just flat hand slightly cupped and in one motion...cover up her head and without hesitation...pick her up. I pick up some pretty mean snakes this same way daily...sometimes many times daily without a drop of blood being shed. I'm not saying I never get bit...but I don't always practice what I preach either LOL....sometimes I just dont care or have time to get overly concerned with the smaller nippy snakes.

LOL slap...they do bite me...almost daily...but rarely if I take steps to avoid it....I like to keep on top of what snakes react how to what so I know what snakes I can hand to who....make sense? I don't let them bite me cause I like to bleed. I just need to know what makes them do what and when and why.

The visual impairemnet trick works for many genus other than reptiles. If you have a barky dog try putting your hand gently over their eyes, instant attention... (don't try with foreign animals) I think it has something to do with the fact that you have asserted dominance by removing the ability for them to see.
When my ferrets were very young they would nip CONSTANTLY. We used the "hand over the eyes" training to rid them of that (stuff hates having their eyes covered) It also only inflicts mental discomfort rather than flipping thier ears (I wouldn't want someone whopping on my ears, in fact it would make me want to bite harder...)
