Newbie question about Dwarf

Hello Everyon,
I am new to the forum and to boas. I am looking to get my first boa constrictor. I have almost 3 years under my belt with ball pythons. I am looking for a snake that is a little less shy and a little more handible. So that so of led me to look into boas. I understand that most BCI males will only get in the 5-6 ft range which isn't bad. But the smaller dwarf species have caught my eye getting 4-5 ft.

What are your recommendations of dwarf subspicies? I am still in the research stage. I want to make an informed decision. Also, I am not interested in breeding. This would just be a pet.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Newbie question about Dwarf

i have a 5 year old hogg island boa, and he is the gem of my collection. he was my first, and is my favorite. his disposition is amazing. hoggs are also great because they dont brown out like a lot of boas do as they age. check out cuttingedgeherp.com for some of the best dwarfs on the interwebz.

Re: Newbie question about Dwarf

Hog (with one G ) Island boas get to about 5ish feet, although some larger specimens are out there now.

They're beautiful boas and mine has a fantastic disposition. They're great eaters and hardy boas.

Re: Newbie question about Dwarf

mine is actually around 7 feet, but i dont think the original owner knew it was a dwarf and needed to be on a dwarf feeding schedule. but sometimes they just turn out like that

well if your hog is that big it's due to genetics, not feeding
