My little guy...
is in shed- so I can't hold him... I hope he hurries up so I can hold him again!! But I'm sure glad he's growing!! I've had him for 10 days today. I handle him at least once a day, and I miss my buddy already- lol. His eyes aren't deep blue yet but I don't want him to be nervous not being able to see well.
Me thinks I now need another snake for moments like this!
I will post pics post shed...

Re: My little guy...
I remember when having snakes was novelty. Now I'm just wrist-deep in crap and my freezer's full of rats. Takes me forever to find my chuchitos.

Re: My little guy...
Yeah, I know what you mean.
It's human nature to always pursue something different once whatever loses its pizazz. There will always be appreciation for what you've got, however intimate, but nothing beats those first hours, weeks or for those so lucky: years.
I'm anathema against a lot of things (such as practices, ideals, aspirations and ethics) in the herp-industry, and even I've idly considered breeding just for kicks, but for me, that's where the line has to be drawn.
There are a lot of good answers to a lot of serious questions, but "because I can" when asked why you want to breed an animal isn't one of them. That's why I know I'm not a breeder, and I remind myself daily to be thankful for what I have, and cherish what I've worked for instead of thinking about the next bigger, badder and better project to pour money I don't have in to.
I'll leave all that noise to those with deeper pockets and a bigger penchant for creativity.

Re: My little guy...
speaking of my little guy. I've read Boas don't do well digesting fat and pink rats are very fatty. There for not good to feed Boas. I was going to get him on rats for better nutrition Should I wait until he is able to take hoppers rats?
thanks

Re: My little guy...
The only evidence to suggest that mice are better to feed than rats (that I've heard of) is that mice have finer fur and this limits any bouts of troublesome digestion in young Boas.
I've fed all of my snakes rats since they were out of the egg - or out of their mother, for that matter - and never noticed any issues personally.

Re: My little guy...
My collecting has drawn to a close for the foreseeable future. There's always going to be something out there that I want, but I need to finish some projects instead of completing them midway and getting the ball rolling on something else. I've reached my limit, juggling all this crap, lol. I've got 8 more going in to permanent Animal Plastics and Sentec caging, and those cages are the only things that'll be added to this household for a couple years.
It's easier if you're a person that's okay with newspaper, a couple of flower-pot hides and an incandescent bulb, but when you take it to the extremes which I do, it adds up. My hat's off to the breeders that somehow manage their snakes' luxury in such great numbers.
Some are okay with having a couple display animals. Expensive, elaborate enclosures with all the trimmings. Every one of mine does. It's... horrible.

Re: My little guy...
I got half way through this thread and my interest waned from the "Little Guy" to the big pair...

OMG that is distracting.

Re: My little guy...
I know tape on the inside of an enclosure is a bad idea. So I taped it to the under side of the UTH for now... Any recommendations?

I've heard doing that makes a gooey mess. I've never experienced that (I use foil tape) but there's other ways than tape. Assuming you're using a glass tank?

AGA, those enclosures are awsome man. Is the king in sand or is that the "desert snow" stuff?
