Noob Boa questions.
*FIRST POST*
Ok so I know how to take care of a boa pretty well since my boa is nice and healthy---but i am challenged when it comes to boa genetics and BCC, BCI stuff so bare with me lol.
Is there a way to tell what type of BCI my boa is by looking at her? (I am told she is a BCI)
Is there a way to tell where shes from or where her parents/family were from since i was told she was captive bred?
If this helps at all i swear she changed colors yesterday when i was holding her lol which means shes a hogg island right? or do all boas do that?
PICS---

Re: Noob Boa questions.
that looks like a very nice hypo BCI. doesn't look like a cross at all to me. and there is no way to know if she is het for anything unless you bred her or knew her history.
welcome and gorgeous boa!

Re: Noob Boa questions.
I highly doubt she has any hog in her. all boas will change from dark to light phases.

Re: Noob Boa questions.
A shocking majority of boas on the market are considered to be Colombian boas. While the very first hypos came from Panama, the vast majority of them have been bred back into Colombians for many generations.
That is a very pretty one though.

No, I am identifying it as a Hypo boa. As I said, almost all hypo boas are cross locale.

Re: Noob Boa questions.
There is no way to say how big any given snake will get. We can always throw out averages, but there are always exceptions to the rule.

Re: Noob Boa questions.
There is no way of determining this boas lineage just from looking at it..... there are so many boas of mixed heritage out there.... Like said before in this thread ... it could have CA, and COlombian in it..... it could have Hog in it.... there is no way to tell........ It definitely looks to be hypo... but thats about as far as you can go...
hypo bci of unknown origin....
the worst thing you can do is make guesses, and start labelling a boa as such... It's a great boa though... so you should be proud of it

Re: Noob Boa questions.
Great lookin' hypo you have there. I wouldn't think that its a BCC I have a couple of hypo BCI boas that look very much like that one.

Re: Noob Boa questions.
She's gorgeous I can tell you this
One of her great great great Grand parents was mot likely a Panamanian Hypo Boa
The other was probably a Colombian type Boa or common Northern Boa as
some people would prefer to call them
Further than that there is no telling what else is in the mix
Bottom line is you have a very very beautiful Hypo Boa !!
Hypo stands for Hypomelanistic
Hypomelanism is the reduction of melanin or black/dark pigment
Hypo Boas are Genetically dominant which means when bred to another
normal or wild type Boa you will produce approx half a litter or Normal
type Boas and half a litter of Hypo Boas
Also every Boa carries two Alleles a normal or wild type Boa will have 2 normal Alleles
When you breed any Boa each Boa parent passes one of its 2 Alleles on to the babies
So each parent contributes 1 Allele
So the Boa showing the Hypo trait has 1 normal Allele and 1 mutant Hypo Allele
The mutant Allele is Dominant over the normal Allele so the hypo trait
is visible because of this Dominant mutant hypo allele
When Bred to a normal the Hypo will pass a mutant hypo Allele to about half the litter of babies
In this form 1 mutant Allele and 1 wild type it is in the heterozygous form
When you breed 2 Hypo Boas together ( both in the heterozygous form) you will produce
25% normal type ( 2 normal Alleles )
50% Hypo ( 1 normal Allele and 1 mutant Hypo Allele )
25% Super Hypo or more correctly called Homozygous Hypo ( 2 mutant Hypo Alleles )
When you breed a Homozygous Hypo or Super Hypo as its called
in the Boa world to a normal Boa
The Super Hypo will pass 1 of its 2 Hypo Alleles on to every baby
Producing a full litter of Heterozygous Hypo Boas
or
as the Boa world calls them normal Hypo Boas

My Sheva is a tiny girl at only 6'2" at 6 years old, while Janet is almost 8 feet, at 5... so... it happens, but rarely

Re: Noob Boa questions.
I'd like to know what litter this Hypo came out of who produced it ?
Did you ask these questions from the person you got it from ?
This Hypo makes me wonder if it came out of a Jungle litter ?
Plus I've seen a hypo that looks much like this one
but I can't remember who's or where.

My snakes that are worth more, and have more genetics I'm looking for come with breeder information. I like to have as much documentation as possible. As far as if it's a Jungle litter - you would have paid enough of a price difference that you'd know. Many snakes can have a varying degree of aberrancies, but I highly doubt it's a jungle. There are a bunch of hypos, some look very much like others, some don't. I know I'd recognize most of my babies, as would a few other breeders (like JimiReed), but as far as knowing who produced it - good luck. Sorry, just know you have a great looking hypo, regardless of the lack of information you may have on it.

Re: Noob Boa questions.
thanks every1 for the boa complimants lol...
for 85 bucks shes one of the best lookin' snakes i have lol.
i got her at a show last october and i never owned a boa b4 (just pythons) and got my first one at that show so i never asked about bcc bci, her heritage, parents or anything like that because until after i got her i didnt kno there were different types of boas other than different morphs. I dont even know the name of the breeder i got her from! . So i pretty much know nothing about her, but shes an awesome snake thats for sure.

Well the point I'm making is this
This Hypo could have come from a Hypo Jungle Litter(We can't know right now)
The obvious Jungles and Hypo Jungles were sold off as such
The rest including this one sold off as normal, thus the low price
Very easily explained
If you'll notice the head marking , holes in the head spear like that
are very rare
The crispness of the pattern very nice , some slight aberrant markings
some very rounded saddle points. "Interesting, really interesting "
Its a pretty Hypo Boa no doubt, I'm just curious who produced it and what else was in the litter ?
Of course I'll never find that out, but I'm still curious
