Re: New guy
once a week sounds right to me for her size she still looks young. I feed my boa every 7-10 days

Re: New guy
Like I said, everything you need to know is on the site, but here are most of the basics in a nutshell:
- Feed once a week (less after the snake is full grown) and don't handle at least 24-48 hrs afterward
- Feed FROZEN (thawed out of course) to avoid bites Thinking about feeding LIVE? Welcome to the Live Pile <- read this if you need convincing
- Be careful of any heat source that could burn the snake (i.e. heat rocks, any heat source inside the cage) also use a thermostat with your lamp/pad.
- Temps should be about 75 in the coolest end, and about 85-95 in the warmest spots.
- Humidity should be about 75%--higher when the snake is "in blue" (about to shed.)
- If you notice the snake soaking in its bowl it is most likely either too hot or could have mites which are deadly to snakes.
There is plenty more to learn, but I guess those are the most common things new snake owners ask about.

Re: New guy
Reptile bark is fine, but keep in mind that anything you buy at a pet shop or reptile store runs the slight risk of having mites. You can buy aspen shavings very cheaply at Walmart. If your Walmart carries it, it will be the best price you will ever find on it. They also carry CareFresh, which is another good choice, as long as you don't live in an extremely dry climate.

Re: New guy
Welcome and nice to see someone else from Richmond, Va here. I recommend Off the Ark exotic pets in Chesterfield. Vinny knows his stuff, great seller and always has everything you need.
Nice looking snake, but change the substrate! I use newspaper, as it is cheap and easy to change/clean the tanks with. Alot of good info here.
