My Bolivian pairing seems to be going along just fine..... I thought I saw an ovulation... but the male has been continuously breeding her since then... so Im guessing it was a false alarm...... But he's still going at it... the've been together since late October...LOL Of course they didnt start copulating till December.... The female is looking quite large though... and the body is shaped like a gravid boa... so who knows..... Errggg I need an ultrasound!!!!! it could just be preovulation swell.... it's definitely not a textbook breeding like my Surinam pairing was.......
this is a pic from December... both of them are in their dark phase in this shot

Sounds a lot like the pair I have together.

Did yours go a real long time??? Everyone tells me they're late breeders as far as boas go...... and I had these together before everyone else.... and I have other pairs ovulated already...LOL
Has your female ovulated yet??
Im storing all of the breeding data in a database. Im tracking everything I can think of, like odd behaviours... sheds.. feedings, food refusal etc.... mate refusal, temps, weights, .... as much as I can notice......
Im going to collect this data as the years go on, and publish it on my website.... It will be interesting to see trends that may reveal themselves
Keep us posted on your progress.. good luck!!

Re: Bolivian holdback
She ovulated on the 15th, huge, like she had eaten a small football!
She had been showing varying degrees of swelling since early Feb.,around the 23rd she was lying with her tail folded against her body and noticeably larger,moving/compressing follicles.
The pair has been together since about mid Oct.,I just fed her today, SMALL rat.She had been stretched out across the back of the cage for a good part of the day.The Bolivians seem to be VERY aggressive feeders, even when gravid.
The male is in shed now,but for the last 10 days or so,nothing was going on between them.
She is starting a shed cycle also.
She is'nt hugging the heat yet, and if I remember right, she really did'nt the last time around either, but she was shooting body temps of 88F.
Hope this helps!
THANKS

Good to know.... Mine never turn down food either... I've fed them a small rat once a month since October and she's still really nice and thick... I actually think she's in Pre-ovulation swell right now(just tonite she started really swelling)..... the male's starting to leave her alone.....
I really love Bolivians... they have a personality unlike any other snakes or even boa , that I've ever worked with... They are highly intelligent, curious, ... my female acts like she likes to be handled... My female's cage is on top of a large stack, at eye level for me....... when I open the cage she comes out... and crawls onto my shoulders.... I've never seen a snakes do this.... It's very bizzarre.....
I think Bolivians are highly underrated, It's really great to see breeders like yourself working with this species and bringing it out in the public eye.......
Acouple other Bolivian pics.... since this is a great Bolivian thread

Re: Bolivian holdback
THANKS, I love these snakes!
I have never owned another locality BCC/BCI, so I don't know any different.
Looks like you have some nice ones, good luck with them!
I have always been partial to the silver appearance in the Bolivians, but the more colorful, orange crush, blonde, purple, ones are growing on me.
If I had the cash,I'd get the female purple Barry has available on his site.I contacted him about the silver female too.
THANKS
