Re: Boa or Python?
haha if it was a total animal limit i would have been booted long ago! think weve got around 20 or more currrently, i need to downsize :P Here bylaws are more or less set by City :P so i can have up to 4 snakes but no venomous ones, dont have the room for more then 2 tho haha
Im going to have to put a devider in my 75gal tank and make the 2 share

Re: Boa or Python?
What do you plan on doing once they are both like 8-10 feet or possible even larger? Half of a 75 gal is no where near large enough for 2 full grown boas... maybe you should look into dwarfs such as hoggs, caulkers, corns, pearls crawls or nics... even so I'd giv each no less then a 40 wide each. Or maybe look into staking boaphiles or something else similar, they save a lot of room.

Re: Boa or Python?
well Shax is small still and i know its going to be a few years before he needs his full size enclosure
and with another yearing the 2 can easily share my 75 until they need something bigger in which case il pick up another large enclosure when needed, but for now im planning to use aquariums i allready have. i know they get big, but i also know their plenty fine in something suited to their current size, he barley takes up any room in his 20g as it is,

Re: Boa or Python?
Im a big fan of boa's, i have nothing against pythons just happened that way.
My collection consists of a BCI(hog island boa), Pacific Ground boa, and my newest addition a amazon tree boa.(Thanks to Morti for pointing out the good side of them, past of the well known horror stories.)
It seems to me there are similar animals on both sides of the fence, Green tree python-Emerald tree boa, Blood python-viper boa, Rainbow boa-carpet python, anaconda-burmese python, ect.
I am not saying they are practically the same thing, they each have very different needs and levels of experience! But if you put them all out on the floor thats how i would group them together.
When it comes down to it, its all about what your looking for in this pet.
i wanted a puppy dog tame companion, BCI
Then i wanted something smaller for my girlfriend to handle, Ground boa
and finally i wanted something that gave me alittle challenge, tree boa
You can pretty much find a pet that fits what you want in either group.
Hope this helps!

Re: Boa or Python?
met a nasty viper boa and a nasty emerald tree boa haha guess that doesnt help their case here :P
i love how my BCI just sits with me for hours and will "snuggle"
so its boa boa boa! its really coming down to that and the fact that this snake will need to be able to cope with having a bunch of people fuss over it a few times a year.
I like using aquariums! i can make the set up visually appealing, their easy to heat and maintain temps in give the snakes plenty of room i dont really want to keep them in bins as much as it works for alot of other people, i find aquariums work for me and splitting a 75gal is plenty of room for 2 small boas, the 20gal gives me enough room for a bunch of stuff i can give him a basking spot, cool side, his half hide a log, a fake plant, peice of drift wood and his cat bowl with room for more (mind you this is all ex-tarantula stuff but its all snake appropriate too) I like aquariums haha

Re: Boa or Python?
my argentine was less den $200, i'll say that. not really sure what her usual price would be or whatever, i know some people move through snakes really quickly and collect large quantities and all, but i just got my three. i suppose a few more snakes will be added eventually but my house is not a warehouse for snakes to be shipped to and from, it's a home

Re: Boa or Python?
Snakes seem to be alot more expensive up here
almost doubble or triple in some cases
Albinos are around 600-1000
but i guess with the exchange and extra shipping it would work out around the same
argentines are double that here
maybe theres just less of everything here in canada haha

Re: Boa or Python?
ive seen t+ argentines in the $2-300 range.
i used to use aquarium styled enclosures but it didnt work for me in the end i had to constantly mist and even had to buy a fogger to keep up with the desired humidity. i tried closing 2/3 of the top, damp towels, etc etc it just didnt work for me.
tubs can be made into vivariums too the ones i use are pretty transparent.

Re: Boa or Python?
well even when i forget to mist the aquarium it usually stays around 50-60% especially if i keep the window open, its just such a rainy area i dont have to worry about humidity till summer hit and thats only a month and a half of having to pay attention to my humidity
argentines are 450 from the breeder here in BC didnt see any from any other breeders in canada
i dont know im really happy with my aquarium enclosure and im pretty sure il be sticking with it until i can afford those fancy lookig rack setups everyones got for their big snakes
