Re: Wowowow
man he is so pretty you really lucked out finding one so pretty! to help him with shedding get a little tupperware cup, cut a small hole on one side so he can fit through, put some damp coco-husk or peat moss stuff, and then on top of that put some damp sphagnum moss and keep it nice and damp, and put it in his cage. you could put one on the cool side and one on the warm side if you want to. then you could also give him a large water dish so he can soak if he wants. but i LOVE the humidity hides myself, once everyone gets more settled in i plan on buying humidity hides for everyone i personally dont really like to soak or anything if i dont have to cause i feel like i am upsetting them or "forcing" them to do what they dont want to....so.....for shedding snakes or snakes that need higher humidity i rather give them the option and they will use it on their own if they need to, i trust that they know better than i do what they need lol. the moss-y type stuff seems to help them shed when they rub on it too

Re: Wowowow
D'aaww! He's so cute! (head stuck in own tail? LOL, I love it!) The Pedialyte you'll want to dilute (yes the clear one, I don't think grape flavor would impress a snakie?); I've personally seen little to recommend 'Shed Aid' over clear water...I think if that were my snake, I'd use like a ventilated "critter cottage" just big enough for him to coil on the bottom, and soak him (an inch or so, nothing too deep) in half Pedialyte: half water (warmish), & if he doesn't drink overtly, pour a little over his head* to encourage (usually works, and about as traumatic* as rainfall...).

Re: Wowowow
He's starting to look a little like my Edward... red on red pastel boa ...
The 1st three pics are right before I got him, he was only a few weeks old. The last pic was right after I got him, he might have been a month or so old at the time... (back in Sept 09)

Re: Wowowow
epic snakes. love em. why not just let the snake shed when it feels like shedding? maybe there is no need to soak.

When you see the skin crinkling, you know it's time; they get mighty uncomfortable when left this way for too long, and IMO a little assistance* is generally appreciated! (*increase humidity, soaks, humidity boxes, etc) Remember this is winter, and even our own skin gets dryer thanks to heating our houses.

Re: Wowowow
Also, if you leave alone, you run the risk of the eyecaps being REALLY stuck on, even when the overall skin comes off in pieces later on...and eyes are delicate. (Not fun to deal with, and once you have, you don't like to repeat the experience!?) Also the tail tips can get really difficult to get off sometimes without damage, maybe moreso on colubrids (with skinnier tails).

Re: Wowowow
Just and update, still no shed! but I soaked him that day and a couple more times since then also spray his cage down 2 times a day. Although just a couple days ago his stomach turned pinkish like my BPs use to do just before they shed and his eyes are a little hazy I wouldn't say blue but just a little hazy and some of the skin on the tail appears to be starting to come off.

Re: Wowowow
We just bought a poss super hypo kahl stripe that is 66% het albino that we are going to breed him to. We wont be getting her till it warms up again though. Obviously the poss albino wont make a difference but she also looks amazing and I am already imagining their babies! Some special PINK hypos with stripes (maybe)!!!

Re: Wowowow
WOW! He's gorgeous! I'm not sure I'd be able to pass that little guy up either. Can't wait to see him grow up! I'm really glad he's with you. From what everyone's saying about these breeders and this experience, he probably needed to get out of there ASAP!
