First regurge
My 3yo BCI had a regurge sometime this afternoon. I fed him about the same time last night. I thought before I come across misinformation while googling, I should probably post here.
All temps/humidity are good. Drops a bit cooler at night but it always has. This is his first regurge so I'm concerned as to what might have caused it.
He's about 5.5ft, not as plump as he probably should be, due to various stages of fasting. The meal was an upgrade to a medium rat, from the smalls he's been eating. It didn't make sense to me that the item may have been to big because after he got it down, there was no sign of a lump... his girth is definetly more than that rat.
Any input is much appreciated

Re: First regurge
Was he handled at all after he ate, how long after eating did he regurg? A medium rat for a 5.5 snake sounds actually on the small side. Mine are on larges at approx the same size, even my Nic. who is a little smaller. I don't think this is a size thing.

Re: First regurge
No he's never handled they day before, of, or after feeding. A med rat does sound small, but up until now he's refused anything larger than a small rat. It was about 24 hours after he ate that he regurged.

Re: First regurge
idk, a boa that refuses meals just sounds like it has something else going on in there

Re: First regurge
Whatever you do don't attempt another feeding for at least 2 weeks. Some of the more experienced herpers on board would say 3 weeks. Feeding too soon after a regurge will only yield the same result and most don't survive after a third incident. Could be husbandry, parasites (you mentioned a weight issue) or something else. Nothing beats a visit to the vet.
Also, If he becomes dehydrated restore fluids before feeding. A little Flagyl to flush the system, rid any 'sites and boost appetite wouldn't hurt either. When necessary I usually stuff a tiny amount of Metronidazole in the mouth of a food item. Most local aquarium stores sell it.
Seachem. Metronidazole

Re: First regurge
***I meant to parasites, not mites***
Also, at @5.5' 1 level measure (100 mg) using the little scoop that comes with it is very safe. And BTW Metronidazole is the pure form of Flagyl.

Good advice! I've never used it but it restores the flora that is depleted with a regurge.

Re: First regurge
Positive that it was completely thawed? (I'm just throwing out ideas - bigger rat, longer thawing time... I don't know)
To me, a 5'5" snake avoiding a larger rat than it's used to (makes some sense), and it's body rejecting a medium rat seem like two different things. I'm not an expert, I just ask questions and hope to get to the bottom of things.

Re: First regurge
have you stressed out your snake or noticed any unusual behavior lately. mine i have seen her when she did regurge i actually witnessed the act. i was just watching her cause id see her moving around. then 2 mins later she would be acting weird and yuck. so i covered her up real good and only peek a bit. now shes uncovered and doing very well. so make it stress free as possible also.

Re: First regurge
It was freshly killed, as I wasn't in the mood to thaw one out.
As for him being stressed, it's doubtful. I always feed, cover the tank and leave the room.
Thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna look into that probiotic stuff.
Btw, I'd call my vet, but he seems to have lost his passion for the job. He tends to give me the easiest answer or he'll just say 'dont worry about it'.. and yes, he's a reptile vet..
