Re: Super Jungles. A couple of questions
Sorry everyone, I screwed up - great start eh?
I meant to ask a question regarding the breeding of Jungles.
I own a small group of Jungles all bought from PK Reptiles. I have two 07 males - a 100% het Jungle and a Salmon Jungle. I also own an '06 female Super Jungle. All are 'unrelated'.
I do know a few of the basics in the breeding of Jungles, such as two Jungles can produce Super Jungles etc, but can find little information on the breeding of Supers.
I would eventually like to breed one of my males Jungles to the Super Jungle female. What can I expect and are there any risks such as the so called problems associated with female albinos?
Any information would be appreciated..... And now a few photos .
First the 07 het albino male Jungle ....

..... and the 07 Salmon Jungle

..... and last, but not least, the 06 Super female

Re: Super Jungles.
Yes breeding two Jungles together will produce Super Jungles as you have stated.
But , so far no one has been able to get a Super Jungle to reproduce (same with Super Motleys btw) . They have been tried for a few years now. There are some speculations that they may be unable to produce , but that is "speculations" for now. However, I do know of a male Super Jungle that has bred this year to a female, and we're waiting to see if their will be live babies, so that the Super Jungle curse is broken.

First, to 'Jolie' the Super Jungle is an 06.
Thanks to 'Morgans Boas' for that piece of information.
I was totally unaware of that piece of 'speculation'. That is not good news, but hopefully as you say it may be just that - 'speculation'. The prices asked for some of these Supers is still 'up there', both for males and females, so someone must still believe in the 'investment' aspect of these beauties.
Anyway before I go and weep into my beer, here is another photo of her, taken a while back....

Re: Super Jungles.
There's nothing to weep over -- yet. I think that it will prove out in the end that they can produce. I've heard of a few issues about them >>
> Some of them get a dent in the top of their head as they mature.
> Some are reluctant to eat aggressively, thus not attaining that muscular tone of a healthy Boa.
I've only seen a few in person, and seemed relatively "fine" healthwise. This year should hopefully answer some questions.

Note; The first Super Jungles born in the United States were born on 17th May 2005 at PK Reptiles.
The oldest are still under four years old.

Wow , I thought it was longer than that . Males can breed at 18 month old, so their has been a couple of years to try - this year being the third, and hopefully a successful year.

Just for confirmation, I found this piece of information on the PK Reptiles 'Birthing Records for 2005', - available on line.

Re: Super Jungles.
Just some info that I received via email --
Hello Pete --
I was reading your "birthing records page and saw that in 05 were the first Super Jungles in the US . I was wondering if you knew when the first Super Jungles were produced ever ? Thanks, David
They were produced in Sweden several years before that but don’t know exact date.
Thank You,
Peter Kahl

Re: Super Jungles.
The only thing I've noticed about Super Jungles when observing them in person is that the males don't have much muscular tone at all and seem almost weak when you hold them. The "hypothesis" some have come up with is that the male super jungles won't be able to breed due to not being able to court the female properly or (correct me if I'm using the wrong word here) invert their hemipenes to copulate with a female. This is just a theory, but I know a few people who have super males that are around 3 years old and they can't get a female to ovulate.
