Suri too quick to shed!!!
I've had my suriname since October. About 6 weeks back it shed for the first time with me. It was an incomplete shed and I had to soak it several times in order to get it all off. I've put a lot of effort so that this problem did not repeat. I bought a hygrometer, added sphagnum moss, and sprayed the cage 2x daily. I kept the humidity at over 50% at all times (a big accomplishment in my dry area). So Monday it went into blue and peaked it's cloudiness on Tuesday. By Thursday it had cleared up again. But, Friday, Just 1 day after clearing up, It started to rub it's nose trying to get the skin off. Just like last time, it only managed to shed just behind it's eyes. It seems like this suri is jumping the gun, my Colombians clear up and take at least 4 days before shedding. Any opinions? I'm going to keep working on this issue. Oh yeah, I also used Repti Shedding-Aid last time to get it off and used it several times while in blue. Thanks, Ruben

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
What a beauty!!
Just look how clean she is
Don't know what the reason is for her bad shed but looking at the pictures I think she does look a bit dehydrated to me..
If I were you, I would put it in a box filled with warm water and let here soak for about an hour or so. After the soak I woul try to get that skin off..

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
The snake knows when it needs to shed. I see a really de-hydrated Boa in that picture. You can keep the humidity at 90%, but if the animal is de-hydrated it won't matter. Chronic bad sheds aren't a good thing.

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
thanks for the tips, that picture is a little misleading, it's the stuck shed that is very wrinkled. I'm going to soak her and help her get it off. She's an import and making me work harder than accustomed. But very worth it. Here is a pic of her spread out and looking much more hydrated.

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
She is very pretty.
When my boa is in the shedding cycle I mist him heavily every day, raising the humidity to 90% and up. Make sure her water bowl is always full to of course.

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
imo if you keep conditions right you shouldn't need to mess around with shedding aid/soaking the snake prior to its shed/etc. that may in fact be what caused problems the second time around.

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
That is a very beautiful Suri! I, too, think it is de-hydrated in that first pic. Just make sure it has easy access to it's water bowl. They aren't the brightest bulbs in the box and I have found that the easier the water is to access the more likely they are to drink often. I put a taller dog dish in my blood enclosure and found that she became dehydrated because she couldn't get into the dish as easy. Go figure!

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
I still see a de-hydratred Boa in the second picture. You're going to have to think in terms of what the animal recognizes, instead of what YOU think it recognizes. Ditch the Aspen, and try changing the water every 12 hours. Some snakes won't touch water that is over 12 hours old, especially since it is an import.

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
All I have to say is that the boa I see was a great find. Great color, particularly the saddles. It does look a bit dehydrated. What to do has already been covered...no need for me to beat a dead horse.
good luck with that beauty.

Re: Suri too quick to shed!!!
Newspaper or aspen will be your best bet. Good looking boa, btw.
on top of fresh water, feed it wet rats so that it will add a bit of hydration.
Good luck!
