New Boa Today!
first off, hello to all of you. i have been a member at another ball python forum for a year and a half and used to own 3 BP's before moving to costa rica. now that i am here, boas are widely available and i was able to get a wild caught boa from the jungle of Pavones 5 months ago. the boa section at the aforementioned site has fewer boa fans (understandably) so i am very happy to be a part of this site now.
i know how you guys love pictures, so i will post pictures of my newest addition that i got today. for costa rica this is a very beautiful boa since most i have seen are very, very dark. this is a wild caught from extremely young and it has a personality like a captive bred. from the first time i picked him/her up, it was perfect. very relaxed and curious. never any hesitation or head pulling away. i am extremely happy with this little guy and his personality.
my other boa is wonderful but is more cautious of me. he is older and close to 39 inches long and about 2.5 inches at his biggest girth. ill post pictures of that guy another time.

these stripes running across his back next to the saddles are quite neat. the picture isnt doing it complete justice, but you can see it ok.

curiosity...

size comparison.

Re: New Boa Today!
Gorgeous, and welcome. I'm pretty new here myself. Everyone seems nice and knowlegeable.
That's amazing that where you live you can find such a beautifull snake.

Re: New Boa Today!
Very attractive boa. And you are one lucky person! Is it me or is there an olive undertone at work there?

Re: New Boa Today!
wow! thanks for all the great fast responses. its nice to meet all of you and thank you for the compliments. from what i know of, this is not a typical color for a costa rican boa. even the nicaraguan and panamanian dont look like this...(i dont think). watch, some central american herp specialist is going to come on here and tell me that this color and style is more common than mosquitoes.
Rachel87. yes, living in a place where you can go find a Boa if you know where to look is a major plus. i know most people on here would kill for that. i met a guy a couple of weeks ago that has 7 boas that he caught all in his town. can you imagine that!!? one of his boas is between 7 and 8 feet.
cich1, if you like olive, my other boa that is bigger is practically ONLY olive. here are some pics of him.
RussianBurmese...you have quite a collection for being so...far away. do the local pet stores carry the majority of what you have?

Lucky indeed. I feel special if I find a black rat snake or eastern milk floating around here... not that I can keep them. Our state laws prohibit keeping wild snakes in captivity. However, the local nature center I volunteer at has a 5ft WC black rat that I take care of. Definitely not the nicest snake around, but definitely impressive if you like colubrids.
