snow boa hets

I've been offered a pair of unrelated snow het babies. From what I've been told there is a 1/16 chance of the future litter being a snow, but with many other possibilities as well... can someone elaborate on these posibilities as well as maybe explain to me how the 1/16 works? they are a beautiful pair so I'm most likely going to take the deal even if I don't breed them in the future, just want to be a little more clear on what I'm getting myself into.

ps. not sure if this thread would have been more appropriate in the breeding thread, if so please feel free to move it. thanks

Re: snow boa hets

if im correct, if you have two boas het for snow, it will mean that a percentage of your babies will be visual snows...someone else correct me if im wrong.

Re: snow boa hets

If you have two "hets" for snow mate, there is a CHANCE you will get some snows in the litter, but not a guaranteed chance. Basically, whenever one of these boas were born, either the mom or the dad was a snow (or a PROVEN het for snow) and some of its syblings might have been visibly snow, but perhaps not... either way, there WOULD be some hets in the litter, but there could be no way to visibly tell...so you really don't know if they are or not.

Plus, I *think* (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that you can only get a snow with an aneryxamel (albino) pairing. Even if they are "het" snow, I dont know if you can necessarily produce snows...probably anery's or albinos. At least, that's how it works in Kenyan sand boas...

Re: snow boa hets

I would be happy wth anerys and albinos I have the pick of two litters, one for my male and female... chances are slim but if anerys and albinos are produced, the chance of a snow is only a bonus. I'll have to look for the special sparkle in the eye I guess

Re: snow boa hets

Were any of the syblings visible snows? That would be a good question to ask the breeder. Also, how many syblings did each litter have? You can get a percentage that way.

Re: snow boa hets

actually you produce snows with aneryxalbino which makes only het snows no visibles then you take the hets and breed them and depending on if there %100het or%66het youll get snows anerys albinos and hets
