Re: Which is better..?

Chikens are a treat. But produce loose stools. I herd boas like them as much if not better than rodents. It makes sense because when a boa is not eating I dipped at f/t rat in cicken broth (salt free). The boa took it like mad.

By the way there are rat and mice substitutes that are advertized from time to time. see petco.com, lllreptile.com. Perhaps some of you have seen what I am talkning about.

They have let people bring rats in before and they look at it as a mistake to ever allow it once. I forget the reason, something about security.

I can't wait to see the headlines on this one............a smuggled Boa and Rats. Next thing we know, Boas will be eating Icelandic children, and they'll never be able to get rid of the nasty little furry critters once a couple get out. As much as I hate to say it, some of these laws were actually meant to protect "virgin" areas. We all know Boas wouldn't be able to make it, but Rats will always find a way, and it would make sense to ban any animal that had to do with Rats or Rat keeping. Labs will always have leeway, because they have the funds and facilities to contain any potential escapees. I'm sorry for the rant, but it ultimately comes down to every keeper policing themselves for the good of the community. Some have to make more sacrifices/comprimses than others. I could go on and on, but we as individuals have to keep the integrity of the community in mind, be it on a local level or world wide. I've known a few people that thought they were doing good thing by smuggling reptiles for public consumption, but when they were busted it was a kick in the nuts for the community as a whole, and takes years to go away. Again, sorry for the rant..........
I have spoken with a girl thats studying animal science and has studied in the lab where rats are allowed, they cant survive here for more than 3 years, thats the result of one of the tests that they have done up there. Then im talking about rats of course.

And of course I say that boas are Illegal in Iceland even though Im a keeper and I live there, how else can I give you guys enough info on the situation I am in when Im searching for advice on how to keep my boa in tip top shape.

Smuggling Illegal animals here is still pretty much a slap on the wrist, and no employer will refuse to hire me because I own a snake or want to breed rats.. that makes just no sense, I already have charges way more serious on my public record than importing vermin, hehe.

And I dont really care for comments that are saying Im making the Herp community here (which is a really big one, they're even breeding corns here, a successful litter this summer came out, beautiful snakes Im told.) in Iceland any worse, because IF it goes in that direction that I get "busted" with my little guy, I will take it as far as I can showing that there isint any more danger keeping a snake than keeping a dog.. comparing a corn bite to a chiwuawa bite for example? I think the chewy would do much more damage ever than a corn. But I didint start this thread to partake in a negative rant, Im asking for more advice, so I hope people look at my post before this one and answer
