Help First Snake Regurge

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.
My little boa Kayne just regurgitated.
I've never had a snake do this before.
We fed him two small fuzzies yesterday.
This is the third time we have fed him, and have not had a problem until now.
Will they regurge for no reason?
Is there anything I should do besided discard of the mess???

Re: First Snake Regurge

You need to try and troubleshoot this to find out why it happened. Can you give us a health and feeding history, age and size of snake, frequency of feeding, temps, humidity, and post pics of snake and set up? What kind of snake? There are many things that will cause a regurge, from overfeeding, to improperly thawing food, to excess handling causing stress, to parasites and other health issues.

Do not feed again for at least 2 weeks and then start with a very small prey item like a pinky. There are a few threads here on how to bring a snake back from a regurge; you need to bring them back slowly to replenish the gut flora, so they don't have another regurge. One regurge is not a big deal, but the more they have, the more dangerous it is for them.

Re: First Snake Regurge

Thank you.
I think he is a suriname boa.
I'm not sure how old he is, we bought him from a reptile expo about three or so weeks ago. One of our female colombians had babies about 11 days ago, and he is not much bigger than they are.
As I said, this was our third feeding with him.
We feed once every week.
I'm not sure of the temp and humidity, I'll get a reading in a couple minutes.
The only handling he has had was being put back into his tank.
He was fed pre killed fuzzies, so no worries about them not being thawed.

Re: First Snake Regurge

BCC's are more prone to regurge than BCI's and do better with slightly undersized meals and one prey item. They are also a little higher strung, as a general rule, and stress more easily. It's possible two fuzzies were too much for him. Also, make sure the temps are adequate for him to digest his meal. He needs a certain amount of belly heat. This can be provided by a heat lamp and not necessary a UTH.

Since you do not know his health history before you got him, it's possible he could have regurged before. Check out the other threads below this one on "regurges". There is also a "how to" thread, but I can never seem to find it. Neither of my snakes have every regurgitated, and one of them is a nervous BCC. I feed him slightly undersized meals and do not handle him for 4-5 days afterwards. So most of what I'm say is "regurgitated" from others' posts. (lol) I'm sure some experts will weigh in shortly.

Re: First Snake Regurge

How are you thawing your mice? Are you just setting them out? You're probably not, but I know a guy who tried nuking it in the microwave. They can't eat cooked meat, so it could cause a regurge. Most of the time they just won't take stuff like that.

Re: First Snake Regurge

Well, as I said above, they were pre killed, not f/t.
And when I do thaw them out, I would never microwave.
I usually use hot water, or just set them out.

Re: First Snake Regurge

I had a BP that regurged his first meal. Turns out he had an RI and wasn't eating and never ate again. I was in HS. LONG time ago. Still makes me sad. :'(

Re: First Snake Regurge

Awe I'm sorry.
I just remembered that I've had Kayne for about 4 weeks, and he wouldn't eat when we tried the week before last.
