Vacation

Hey,

I'm going to be out of town for about 2 weeks. I have a friend who is going to check on my snakes every other day or so. I was going to have her feed my snakes once while I was gone...but I am thinking I will just give my snakes a little bigger meal than usual and they should be ok. It will be 14 days between feedings when I get back....I'm thinking my snakes have sometimes gone that long without eating in between sheds without any problems.

You guys think they will be alright if I feed them a little larger meal than usual? Or should I teach my lady friend how to feed snakes lol.

Thanks

Re: Vacation

Personally, I wouldn't entrust feeding to anyone who isn't already well "briefed-in" on herps and specifically, on my herps.

Two weeks is nothing. You could do a normal feeding before leaving, and just feed again when you get back. You want fresh water though.

Re: Vacation

Just get that person watching your snakes to give them fresh water daily (preferably) and spot clean the enclosures. They'll be better off without being fed while you're gone.

Re: Vacation

Actually you should feed them a day or two before you go. If there is any mess (regurgitation, poop etc) you can clean it up instead of leaving it in the cage for 14 days. I have gone on travel for several weeks without feeding (2 kings, 2 boas) with no ill effects. Think about it; in their natural habitat, sometimes they may go a month without a meal.

If your friend does is comfortable changing the water then fine. But if not, I would not risk it. Ya know s...... happens and I am sorry won't make matters better.

Re: Vacation

I've left my corn snake once for almost three weeks. He was fine when I got back, 'cept he forgot what a human was and was a little defensive the first few times I handled him.
