Question.......
O.k., I know this isn't the right forum to ask buy I wanted it to get some traffic for some quick answers. I am using the sevin dust method to rid mites from my snakes. We have a BP and a BCI. They are both under 1 year old(still small).
Here's my question: I have sprinkled the sevin dust lightly under the bedding in the 2 cages. Just a very thin layer, not too much at all. Now I know the sevin dust will not harm the snakes directly but I have noticed that my BCI likes to burrow under the bedding sometimes and even wears the bedding thin under her hide. Suppose she gets some of the sevin dust on her body and then gets in her water bowl for a dip. And then she decides to get her a drink of water. With having some small amounts of sevin dust in her water can she get sick from drinking it?
I am concerned that it might happen, and of course I want to keep our babies very happy and healthy.

Re: Question.......
I would never use sevin dust i had 3 snakes die from it. IF you do use it, never keep water in her tank with her cause if it gets into the water and she drinks it it will kill her even a tiny amount that gets into her body will kill her. I would only use newspaper in tank when doing this also. A reason for useing newspaper is well the mites might nto all die cause they will be ontop of the bedding or on snake. Sure alot of mites might go under the beding and get into the dust and die tho.
still i would not use sevin dust they make mite sprays for snakes. There alot safer.
Reason 3 of my snakes died is well one of the snakes i tried with water bowl in tank and well some yes got in it and he died from that. The 2nd snake that died well i learned from first time not to put water bowl in tank, well this 2nd snake i was giving him a bath so he could drink and stuff well i was trying to wash the dust off him and i was nto watching and he started drinking and yes that killed him.... the 3rd it was my moms falut, she forgot i told her to not leave him in water with the dust still on him *giving bath* and well yes found out she did and it killed him.... This was all before i started useing the sprays..

5%, and I am using it to get rid of some mites that have popped up. I tried to find the repel spray at my local wally world but they don't carry it. I have used this mite off stuff from a pet store but it seems like it does nothing.
I read on here where some people were using sevin dust with good results, that is why I am trying this method.

The sprays that are ment for snakes always worked for me. What i did is, put the snake on news paper, than sparyed the snake good i kepted water bowls out of tank at this time. I took snake out of tank every day to put in bath so he/she could get water, than i resprayed and put back in tank. I also spryed the paper some to kill any on it. IT worked just fine with me.

Re: Question.......
ok, i just went and washed out the cages. fortunately i hope, i had just put the dust in the cages under the bedding and the snakes have only been back in the cages for about an hour. they stayed on top of the bedding. i am taking no chances. i am baking some new aspen bedding now as i hope this helps also. i am doing everything so far to keep mites away. i have washed out the cages with bleach and water, baked my BCI's log, soaked the fake plants in bleach, bathed my snakes and got every little mite off that i could see, i sprayed both snakes, the cages, the logs/plants all with mite off. now i am baking the bedding before it goes in the cage. i hope this keeps the mites away. Rocky (BP) had got them bad right before his shed he just did that is why i am trying to get rid of these suckers
