Boa Constrictor "Handling Safety"

Does it really take two to handle a boa?
Boas have never killed anyone but could they be potentially fatal?
I've heard the takes one person per every 6 feet of snake rule but what if I had a nine foot boa? Then would I be fine by myself because it would mean two people for a 12 footer? Thanks

Re: Boa Constrictor "Handling Safety"

If the boa is over 6 feet, have two people present to handle.

Just becuase it's not a 16 foot snake, doesnt mean it couldnt do some damage.

the rule is for every 6 feet, one person, so that means once it hits 6 ft, you need another person, once it hits 12, you should have 3

Re: Boa Constrictor "Handling Safety"

Better to be safe than sorry...they are animals and we've all seen an animal have a bad moment. I have a 7 foot RTB and we strictly enforce a 2 person rule in the house. The other doesn't necessarily need to be right htere, but there has to be 2 people in the house.

I've heard that too, but I don't believe it. Regardless, the potential is certainly there.

Re: Boa Constrictor "Handling Safety"

Wow, are you kidding? What could a six foot nonvenomous snake do to me anyway? What if it craps its water dish or had a serious emergency and I have to do something about it pronto? BTW do you work with large boids?

What do you mean by that? If someone got killed wouldn't it be recorded?
