New boa - handling ok?
I have a new baby boa
According to the breeder, he should wait another week or so before being fed. My question is, is it ok to handle him in the week before I get him to eat for the first time or should I really just leave him alone until he's gotten and digested a meal in his new home?
I've not touched him since he arrived and won't unless people think it's not going to set him back any.
I am used to ball pythons, where you should not breathe or even think in the same room with one until you can get them eating LOL!

Re: New boa - handling ok?
When did you get him? If it's been a week since you got him he should be good to go to eat. Then wait a couple days, then you can handle him.

Re: New boa - handling ok?
You'll find that boas are muuuuuch different than ball pythons as far as feeding responses and such.

Re: New boa - handling ok?
Im sucker for handling my new babies. Despite what people think I end up holding them for atlease 10 mins before I settle them into thier new enclosure. I cant help myself, I have to just cuddle em and go ape wild for the momment. Like on xmas day =D

Re: New boa - handling ok?
I just got him Thursday.
I can wait if that's best for him. I guess I'll have to sit on my hands or take up knitting or something

Re: New boa - handling ok?
Yea, you need to wait just like you would for any other snake. Though I do admit, I handle mine for about 5 minutes when I first get them, just to give them a once over and make sure there's no mites or anything.

Re: New boa - handling ok?
Been keeping snakes for over a decade now and never once have I ever given a no handle period for any of them. To this day I've never had a problem with any of them over the years. I feel the sooner you handle them the more accepting they are kind of like imprinting them saying this is the way things are going to be.
