Housing question
I'm planning on trading a B&W Arg. Tegu for a female 4.5ft Dumerils Boa. He's offered to throw in the enclosure she's in. I can't decide whether or not I want to use it. He can't take a picture of it right now but from the description it sounds like a Vision cage. He said it isn't but doesn't know the manufacturer. It's 36" x 18" x 16" high. That sounds a little small for the snake but would be easier to maintain the proper temp & humidity. It has no lights or UTH with so I'd have to add them. I'm guessing a stick on UTH isn't good with a plastic enclosure. I don't want to have to put alot of money into this to make it right.
I have a 75G tank that would be more suitable (size wise). I'd just have to add a 60G UTH (with thermostat), a basking lamp (or ceramic heater), and cover most of the screen top to keep the humidity in. And, of course, locking clips.
Any advise??? No racks! Sorry.

Re: Housing question
My advice? Leave the light and CHE out if you can.

I know, it dries out the air. I've had very good luck maintaining humidity in a tank by covering most of the screen top with aluminum foil and black duct tape as was shown on Ball-Pythons.net. I have a BRB in a 29G maintaining 70-75% humidity without misting.
I usually put the water bowl partially over the UTH but in this case if the snake requires to burrow that is going to be a problem. So without the light or CHE I can't get the proper ambient temp. I don't have a room to dedicate, we have tanks all over the house. We keep the house at 70 and use night time bulbs as required to bring up the ambient. Works good, just not conventional.

I live in a fairly warm climate, and keep the house pretty warm. I'd use a CHE if I had to.

Re: Housing question
Take the cage anyway. When RAS sets in, you'll have it ready.
