First Feed and Question
Hi There!! Well, I fed Zelda for the first time last night. As a reminder, she was born Sept 11, 2007 and is such a feisty bugger that I haven't touched her since we got her on Feb 28th. With her breeder she was eating live mice and so I was really surprised when she slammed, seriously slammed, a f/t rat fuzzy of 19g. I am glad to be able to wait an additional 2 days of digestion time before the tame-training phase!!!
Anyway, I was wondering if there were any opinions as to whether I ought to up her prey size next week to a 27g rat pup. She was still hunting the area after slamming the fuzzy... I have no idea how much she weighs... She looks rather like a noodle to me, but my eyes are biased from looking at balls!!!
Any advice would be helpful and thanks so much!

Re: First Feed and Question
I would suggest that you feed one prey item that is approximately 1 - 1.5 times the size of her girth at her widest point.
Since I have no concept of how girthy she is at her widest point, I have no way to tell you what to feed her.

Re: First Feed and Question
You must really try not to look at balls too much. This can definitely be distracting from the case in point, which is your boa.
Sounds to me like you have a lively, healthy snake! What length is he now?

Score.
As for the question at hand, Morti nailed it. One appropriately-sized prey item will keep your new pet nice and healthy.
btw... Super Ultra Mega Kudos to you for immediately switching to f/t...you're the rockin'est newbie, ever!

Re: First Feed and Question
I hope you don't fall for the natural temptation to try and help her grow fast. A lot of people want to know "how much/often can I feed my boa?" A much healthier mindset is "How much/often should I feed my boa?"

I would guess she's about 2 feet but since I haven' handled her since I got her, I'm not sure. She seemed really long when she came out of her shipping bag and was trying her darnedest to bit me!!!

Thanks for kudos but actually I am a weenie and I better straighten up and do what's right for this snake and hold her and just get the bites over with... I guess Saturday is the day....

No, I have no inclinations toward irresponsibility... I've raised 4 kids and realize that all things grow in their own time...
