New Boa
This is the new Red-tail boa that I got from Basically Boas. She came from Mike's Aby line:
Here she is about to eat me:
Getting ready to eat me:
Here's a good one; she wants to taste prior to eating:
So, she came this morning by FedEx in a box marked "Perishable". I opened the bag and she flew out and bit my arm. Hissing and tagging a towel that I grabbed, I finally got her into her cage. Good gods and goddesses- someone help me please!!!

Re: New Boa
A familiar story. Congrats, and just give her some time and space.

Re: New Boa
Don't hold her for about two weeks so she can settle in. She seems feisty, that's usually a good sign.
After the two weeks, handle her daily and be prepared to get tagged a lot more. Baby snakes can be downright rippers. Congratulations!

Re: New Boa
I have bought off Mike more than several times. He's great to deal with. That said, about half of the boas that I've got from him are fiesty at first. They will calm down soon enough. It's the neg to purchasing off bigger breeders because the boas don't get handled barely at all and can become quite the handful. Let her settle in for a week and then feed her. Another tip- When purchasing off bigger breeders you should never feed a normal meal. 99% of the boas you would get off the bigger guys are on what's called "maintenance feeding". This means they are usually on mice and aren't fed every week, but usually a smaller than normal meal once every 14 days or so. I'm not saying Mike did this, I've never had a single problem with any boa I've purchased off from him, ever. I did have a situation where I fed a male hog, I got off from another guy, a normal meal that left a very small bump in him, and he regurged and died. After a necropsy and $400 later, it was because he blew out his esophagus when he regurged. So, I start out with a smaller than normal meal and work it's way up to a good meal whenever I buy off from anyone now.
