Re: hide
You could build one from rough cut lumber and stain it in a camo pattern. It'll blend in nicely.

Re: hide
I like the looks of hollow logs and such things, but I think I prefer plastic hides because they're easier to clean.

Re: hide
None of my snakes, from the 07 farmed nicaraguan babies to the 7' female use hides. They seem to do fine without hides, I wouldn't use one personally. Try without one, I bet you will be A-O-kay

Re: hide
I don't want to derail this thread, but why wouldn't you use them? The snakes need somewhere to retreat now and then, at least.

I concur. Adults really don't need them.
Neo's need them to reduce stress, but that's about it.

Re: hide
I use upside down clay flower pots. I cut a hole in the side for them to crawl in then hot glue those leafey plastic vines on them. Look awesome and they can be cleaned easily. I can post a pic for an idea if ya want.

Yeah, as I posted in "mom must have been an emerald!" My 4 week old wont even go in her hidebox... period! She likes it best atop her tree! I guess snakes do have sort of a personality. each one being alittle different. My old 8 footer always loved to be in a box, yet this tiny frail little baby would rather be up high!??
Go with whatever works when it comes to hides I guess. I have heard though that the big snakes will be startled easier if "Hides" are provided to the big snakes while they are getting older. They dont like to be suprised
