Help To travel with cage, or to ship cage?

I am in quite a pickle, I've been stressing over this for months now...basically since I got my boa last August. So, here goes:

My girl is current is 55g glass tank. Store had them one sale for $1 per gallon, so I couldn't pass the deal up. Anyway, when I turn 18 in August I am moving up to Baltimore, MD (currently in Louisville, KY) for college. So, of course, my dog and snake will be coming along with me. I will most likely be driving due to the huge price increase in plane tickets, and my dog is pretty sensitive so I think flying would get him in a tizzy. Getting off track, so anyway, when I drive up there, there's no way I can tote the 55g glass tank with me in the tiny Ford Focus with a 70 pound Doberman, so when I get to the house in Bmore Evie (snake) won't have anywhere to go. So, now here's the problem. I plan on buying a T13 AP cage for her, but can't decide to buy it now and travel with it when the time comes or buy it a few weeks (or however long shipping takes) and have it shipped to the house in Bmore so it'll be there as soon as I get there. So, do you think an AP cage will survive a 600 mile journey or should I wait and ship it when the time comes? Obviously, it'll have to be in the trunk, possibly with suitcases depending on their sizes and amount of room left in the backseat after Lucius (Doberman) is in there.

I would say have the plastic cage shipped to Baltimore. If nothing else, you can pick up cheap temporary housing in the form of a tupperware tub once you get up there and until your cage arrives.
