Okay, so I've had this boa since January or so, and I've noticed something with him lately. He's a 4 year old Peruvian/Columbian mix in good health as far as I know. He's about 6-foot something, about 4" in girth. He eats readily (1 jumbo rat per week), recent fecal was clear, I've looked for
mites and found none, and he shouldn't have any added stress more than any of my other boas that are in basically the same type of setup. The thing is, he's shedding like every two or two and a half weeks!
I wish I kept records of sheds just to compare, which I want to start doing, but I have NEVER seen a snake this old shedding this often. For example, four weeks ago he was going into shed so I didn't feed, the following week he was just coming out of blue but still hadn't shed so I skipped again, last Tuesday (9 days ago) he got his usual 1 rat, and this tuesday he was blue again so I didn't feed.
That's a pretty typical pattern with him and I'm just wondering if there's something I'm missing. Like I said, he's in a very similar setup to my other boas and my burm and my corn. I can't imagine that it'd be a stress shed or anything. Is it possible he's still just growing that fast at this age? I thought they usually slowed around 4 years old?
To compare, my 6 and 2 year old columbians are eating on the same schedule (the 6 year old female gets 2 rats of the same size per week, and the 2 year old is getting exactly what the 4 year old is). They're all shedding every 4 - 6 weeks.
