bad news for larry :(

i took larry to the vet today. turns out hes worse off than i thought. he has a mouth infection. an absess on the roof of his mouth and his toung sheath is so messed up it rotted his toung. if i do every thing i can he will never have a toung again. and his jaw will be permantly messed up. i don't know what to do i have anti biotics to heal the infection but i was told even that might not work. things are looking grim for larry

i just bought him on friday. and that night i noticed his jaw wasn't closed. i figured it was not lined up. it started swelling up bad so i took him to the vet.
thes are the pics i have. but i might go back to where i bought him and make them eat the vet bill. everybody is telling me to take him back and get a new one but i already like him so much. hes my first boa!

yeah they sold it to me messed up. and hes just a baby! i'm just worried if that got by them what other snakes and reptiles the have there are sick too! they had a really beautiful brazilain rainbow. i just hope that one gets out of there before anything happens to it

Sorry to hear how things went down but I would have to hold the seller responsible for selling an unhealthy animal. Let us know how it goes.

One thing I would bear in mind is that if the tongue is damaged he may not survive at all. That tongue is the major sense organ of the snake's life. Will it eat what it can't smell? It remains to be seen. Good luck with this.

i talked to the vet about it and i know he might not make it but i'm giong to try to give him the best life i can. i was told he ate last tuesday but i find it hard to belive if his mouth was so messed up

Where did you get him from?

he came from a fish/reptile store my friend reccomended to me. he said they took good care of their stock and it should be healty and blah blah. i bought a corn from there and its fine. but i wouldn't recoomend anybody there after this.

That's horrible.. it's cases like this that teach you one thing though... if buying from a petshop like that, -always- look for signs like that.. a jaw that doesn't close properly, even if it just looks misalligned, should be avoided.. same with anything that looks like mites, clicking, wheezing, etc...

If he does make it, then he's a fighter... but if he doesn't, then you did your best and at least he won't be suffering anymore.. though I would be after the petshop for a refund, especially if it's only been a week.
