Some little presents with my new Suriman .

Well , I have just bought a new female suriman from our local pet shop . I think the shop owner is really a nice that he has given something away to me as ilttle presents ...

M I T E S !

Ok , I have to say , it's not the first time I found mites in my collection . Everytime after I have finished all the treatments to killed mites and I made sure they are all disappeared from my collection , I always wished this is the last time I do solve the mites problem in my house .

Howevery , nobody will always be lucky .

The devils , mites , came to my collection again .

I really want to say "D*** you !" to the shop owner since he said it's normal that you found mites on your snakes , he said every snake will has mites on their body it's just depends on if you can see the mites with your nuke eyes
or the mites are just hide under snake's scales .

I don't wanna wasting time on altercate with the noobs . I just hope to solving this problem ASAP .

I tried Frontline , for sure , it's toxic , but it's really helpful to kill all the mites from the snake collection . This product can be helpful to destory the mite paradise in my collection . I always used this product under vet directed since this product can also be very strong toxic and could be possible to kill the snake .

Unfortunately , this product is seems can be no longer useful to kill mites . Some mites have developed their own special resistance to the Forline and they can be survival after a treatment of Frontline .

That's why after I separated the new suriman form my snakes for 10 days long and done all the treatments of Frontline , I can still found mites on the surinam and the mites have all infected to other snakes within these 2 weeks .

Well , Frontline is useless now .

Another products I am considering is Mite Off made by Zoomed .
One of my friend who said this product is very useful to kill the mites .
Zoomed said their Mite Off is safe and non toxic even you can spary the liquid directly to your animals even around their eye (ture of false ?) ...

Anyway , my question is :

If anyone has exprience with use the Mite Off to solve the mites problem on
your snakes ? If posisble , please give me some direction .

thanks a lot to you pros and kindness good guys ~

I like to think of them as "bonus pets."

Re: Some little presents with my new Suriman .

well, you should also always quarantine a new snake before adding it to the rest of the collection, for this very reason.

Re: Some little presents with my new Suriman .

Well I don't know about Mite-Off. I've heard Repel and Prevent-A-Mite work well. Good luck.

Get yourself a can of Prevent-a-mite. Works like a charm. Kinda expensive, but it works awesome.

Re: Some little presents with my new Suriman .

I've used the mite-off and LOVED it, but I always use it in conjunction with Repel or Prevent-a-mite in the cage. The mite-off works wonders ON the reptile, but isn't so great in the cage, but then again you can't use Repel or Prevent-a-mite ON the reptile, so I always like to cover all my bases. I've also used the Healthy Habitat De-Flea stuff, but I really honestly like the Mite-Off a lot more, and I think that my snakes like it more, too. I have sprayed it on their eyes as well, which was useful because the mites do like to hide there in the creases. *shudder* ARGH I hate mites!

Needless to say, after two bouts with the creepy crawlies, we quarantine strictly at my boyfriend's office.

Re: Some little presents with my new Suriman .

In the long ago past i used reptile relief and it seemed to work great and you can spray that on your snake directly. The other method i found very useful was olive oil. Just rub onto your snake and it basically suffocates all the mites. One dose of that and i never saw another one after that. I always do strict quaratine with newly acquired reptiles so make sure i never run into this problem again and its worked. Make sure you clean the cage very well as they can hide in the smallest of places. Good luck.

Re: Some little presents with my new Suriman .

aside from quarantine, some discretion in where you buy your herps from is also needed.

if a snake has mites, you CAN tell at a pet store, you have to look for the signs (white fleks, sunken eyes, raised scales, moving on the body, in the water bowl, etc, or if you see other animals with them)

now ordering online.... just use better judgement and not order from people who probably wont be in business 2 years down the line.
