I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
I just aquired a breeding pair of Dumeril's boas and when I got them I realized that she was gravid. I dont have any experiance with breeding and care for a pregnant snake. Any info would be helpful. She is about 6 1/2 feet long and has a 14-16 inch girth.

Reason: inaccurate girth size

Re: I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
If she is already gravid all you can do is remove the male and make sure she has a proper hot spot. After that just wait till she drops and have a rack to put all the babies in.

Re: I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
Not being mean or anything. I want to help. But if you don't know the care or how to breed them how do you know she is gravid. Maybe she is just fat. LOL. But if she is indeed gravid then do what Boa Guy said. Just a waiting game. If you don't want to care for all the babies then Find a Dealer or Pet Store around you and sell them all. If you sell to a dealer you can probably sell them unshed and unfed and they won't mind. A pet store might want you to keep them and get them feeding before they spend money. I know it sounds like a greedy move. But heck you can make some money while having ur 2. It is much easier in the long run. Plus depending on where your located sometimes you can get ok money for baby dumerils.

Re: I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
I do know how to care for snakes in general. i have had several snakes over the past 8 years or so just never had a pregnant one. and the reason i believe she is gravid is because the previous owner said that she got really fat really quick and the fact that her skin is streched out and you can see the white between the scales on 75% of her body.

Re: I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
So there really is not much to this whole breeding thing once she becomes gravid. Now I have heard that you are not supposed to feed them or they will not feed during this period but i have also heard that they will feed but you should not feed them big meals because it will make her miscarry or something. should i feed her? and if so what size rat should i feed her?

Re: I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
What I'm wondering is why the previous owner would sell a possibly gravid snake and put it through the stress of adjusting to a new home... unless he had a very valid reason to do so. This is just my opinion though, and if she IS gravid, just make sure the temps are correct.. there are a few caresheets on basic breeding information that you can find online, but talking to someone who's actually dealt with Dumeril's would be a much better bet. The guy who runs J&J reptiles in Calgary Alberta has a breeding pair of Dumeril's, if you email him he could give you some pointers.
HIs contact information is here J&J Reptiles Inc.

Re: I have a gravid dumeril's boa. I need some help
I don't know anything about breeding Dumerils, but I think somebody needs to give draggon some specific details as to what temperatures and hotspots the female boa needs.
If you do feed her, feed only once every 1 - 1 1/2 months and it should be a small rat.
