Not one but two problems....
...Ok guys I fed my BCI a large rat today and like with all my snakes I check up on them after they eat (just a peek). But when I checked up on her I seen a nice lump in her and it was all good, Until I looked closer and saw ants crawling on her and her sort of trying to get them off her. I looked around the tank and didnt notice a ant trail or anything...just scatterd ants! IM like what the :bleep: and take her out asap and put her in a rubbermaid tote. And as soon as I start to take out the newspaper I lift it up and notice that my tanks is cracked on the bottom WOW! What a day! I dont know when it happened or how. I just changed out the newspaper last wednesday, and it wasnt broken. Im hoping it wasnt the heating pad under that caused it, But Im more worried about the snake. Has anyone ever experienced ants on there snake....I know ants can stress out alot of animals, And led to a regurge or even death from stress. Any suggestions on what I should do? Im getting a new cage in soon for her, I have nothing else to put her in. I put down extra newspaper and taped down the sides so she cant get under he newspaper. So lets hope this holds off until the new cages comes friday!
any help?
Thanks,
Rich

Re: Not one but two problems....
Oh jeez.. that IS wierd..! Any way anything could've hit the bottom of the tank? Water bowl set down too hard..? Maybe double-check the heat-pad. I know I cracked the glass on one of my tanks by having the heat-lamp too close to the edge and it heated up too much.
The ant-thing can be bothersome because they'll look for any little place to bite when they're attacking something.. *personal experience with a fire-ant hill* Just make sure you get them all off of the snake, clean out the tank as well as you can and possibly put some masking tape along the crack on the outside underneatht he tank if you can, or at least where they're getting in through. S'the only suggestions I can think of at least.

.......Repel Permanone... I have killed FLIES with it! bwa hahahaha
Oh, and if you can find where the ants are coming in, get some ant bait traps at Lowe's or some place. Terro Ant Killer is great stuff, just make sure nothing can get into it.

Re: Not one but two problems....
Adrya- I havent thought about repel. I actually have some. The thing with this house is that it has a subfloor and all the ants are under there and somehow get in...we have sprayed and put traps...very weird how the tank cracked. It could of been from the water bowl, it is ceramic and pretty heavy.
