Here's something to think about.. why exactly would a boa or other snake have a glowing red underside?
.
Figure that out and you'll know why the boa was willing to pose like that for me for a while.

The only thing that sticks out in my mind would be that the red underside could act as a defensive aid by warning off predators. I know they can be a somewhat aboreal boa, which would help them in trees, I would think....
