I don't keep any BCC, but it sounds like at least 6 months to as old as a year. Let's see some pics.

well, i'll post a picture as soon as i put a huge copyright thing on it as is suggested in the other forum area. however, i'm pretty sure that's his correct age as i asked the guy i purchased it from...Ben Siegel Reptiles.
alas, that poor snake i'm sure wasn't having a lot of fun with that stupid, stupid woman you've got in the picture. animal abuse...tssssssssssssssssssssssk.

2 and 1/2 ' feet seems very small for even a male. I know BCCs grow slower than BCIs but that seems very small. Not sure if that is typical of Guyanans. My baby male BCi is that big and I know he is 7 months.

BCC do grow much slower than BCI however they will get bigger then the BCI.
So I would not worry about your BCC. All of my boas eat 1 rat every 12 to 14 days.
This is my 1999 female Guyana she is just over 6'
This is my 1997 male Guyana he is just about 7'
This is my 1998 male Suriname he is about 5 1/2' long.

beautiful snakes Tom, thanks! yes, i knew that BCC grew much more slowly which is why i had asked about people specifically owning BCC as opposed to BCI and even more helpfully, Guyana.
let me ask you this...in your experience, how large does an average male Guyana BCC get? what kind of growth rate should i expect? he looks just beautiful and absolutely healthy and active. i got him from Ben Siegel. nice animal. thanks!

I just got a W/C baby Guyanan. She is 30" long not sure how old,but she is gorgeous. She looks exactly like a classic Surinam,Which goes to show Boas don't pay attention to man made borders. She is a real sweatheart, still a little skiddish.

How large do Guyanan Boas get? I'd like to get one, but I prefer smaller boas.
I may buy a Dumeril's instead, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks

If you like the smaller boas, that is not the type you should get. BCC can get between 10-12 foot long. Maybe you should consider something like a hogg island boa or sand boas? Hoggs only reach around 4-6 foot (in most cases) and sand boas are smaller than that. Right off the top of my head I want to say Dumerils get to be around 5-7 foot, but don't quote me on that. I will say I don't think Dums make a good first snake. They can be trouble feeders.

Sorry Trinity, I just couldn't resist "Quoting" you!
Indyshark, like Trinty said BCC may not be the subspecies for you if you want to avoid 'big' boas. Hog Island, or any of the other island forms, (Corn Island for instance) typically are smaller snakes. Also some of the Central American boas (BCI's) tend to be a little smaller too. Granted, these types may not have the striking red tails that some BCC's can have but they can also have some pretty characteristics all their own. Also, avoiding power feeding and over feeding boas will generally keep them on the smaller end of their size range.

hi,
I have two guyana one male and one female, they tend to really take off the second year and gain weight mine nearly doubled in weight. mine will be three around december
Here's the male rudee I think he has a neat looking tail, they change color as to time since shed 1 wk aswome 2nd week and then the darken that week pre-shed. this is his feed box,
he will wait patiently for me to put the rat down cover him slide him under the shelf in teh cage and leave the room, very shy about eating.
my female is much larger bodied than the male this is probably normal for all species of boa,

they seem pretty mellow never been niped or even hissed at they do moan a bit when hauled out of the cage if you can get them out. Be careful with the adults the really are strong one almost accidentally fractured my thumb one day it had it bent back to my forearm in a coil .. owww .. they don't like going back in their cage once out and can wrap a coil almost as fast as I can untangle my arm,,, mine despise strangers and will struggle if I force them on someone else
not sure if its a smell thing or just healthy fear of heights my guyana always panic if not held close to the body. they do seem to know the feeder....
Here's the male deciding to come out of the cage straight at me,,i was changing the water and he wanted out now.

.
they always let me know when to feed they proably smell the rats in the ice chest warming up I usally soak two or three jumbo's in a coleman cooler and when warm I put the male in a feed box and let the female stare at the rat for about 20 mins and then I'll tap her nose with the rat and she will either grab it aggresively or take it really gentle... I be real careful when feeding don't want any accidents....

Thanks for the information! I thought Guyanians were smaller than typical BCC's, but I guess not. I will stick to my BCI and someday I may get a Dum and/or a Sand Boa.

djnzlab,
I gotta ask...where did you get that cage set up? I have never seen one like that before. Did you make it yourself or purchase it somewhere? Very nice....
