Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
This is a good thread. I'd like to make one observation that so far hasn't been stressed. That is; head and body morphology (head shape and relative head size as well as the cross-section of the body (how round it is) and the relative length of the neck or taper of the body) are all influenced to some extent by the age, maturity, feeding and growth rate. Generally these differences become more obvious as the animals get older.
.
Most experienced observers can tell a Constrictor constrictor from a Constrictor imperator at a glance at any age but it is certainly true that a lot of smaller boas require a close look especially if you haven't looked at a lot of Boas.
.
Here's a photo of a large mature Constrictor constrictor, a lot of the things like head size and shape and so-on are more obvious. Few people at any level of expertise would confuse it with imperator
.

.
Hope this helps a little.

Ok, I did say FEW PEOPLE would confuse it with a common boa, not that no one would.

As far as I am concerned, snakes only come in three varieties: cute, extra cute, and adorable!
