Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
You are absolutely right Gus, and I mistyped in my frustration about the topic at hand. I did not intend to make it sound like the two most common and popularly kept lines of hypo BCI were all there are.
In addition to the ones you posted, there is a line of proven pure Colombian hypos as well as a line that... a guy we all know from Arizona... claims is recessive.
It is entirely possible that the "Sabogae Island" boas are the result of a naturally occurring hypo gene that became the dominant color and pattern morph due to genetic isolation.
I had to edit myself twice to keep it civil and I STILL made the post say something that I didn't intend.

Boa constrictor sabogae.. F1 of wild-collected..
.

.

.

.
Not sure myself if they are true hypomelanistics.. (does have a 'Scoria-boa' thing going on) since I'd never out-cross them to unrelated I guess I'll never know!
.
Have fun, be safe.

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
So this is Boa constrictor imperator? Feeding this guy for the past 3 years but size maintain as the same.
Got two of this, both sizes are still the same.
Can this be a dwarf Boa constrictor imperator? Please advice. Thanks.

BCI, yes and it certainly could be a dwarf.

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
How common is this? I have 8 dwarf Burmese pythons and never come across BCI with dwarf genetic.
Is dwarf BCI common or this is something that I can be proud off?

You can be proud of that pretty boa, but it's not rare.

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
I have absolutely no idea what specific subspecies type my boa is, or exactly how old it is because I bought him/her from a pet store that knew nothing about it and kept telling me it was a "Colombian red-tail," which I know from countless hours of research is incorrect.
If someone could deduce from my description of my boa any information on it, that'd be swell
I can't upload pictures because I have to use my phone to get on the Internet.
My boa arrived at the pet store February 18th and I bought it in July. Seems to be around 30 inches long. Perhaps it's 8 or 9 months old? But it seems fairly small for being that old, doesn't it?
It doesn't have the "batman symbol" saddles with the points, it has circles. Only one saddle has a point.
White belly.
Relatively light-skinned, and has a red tail (not as red as one can go, though).
Does not have a cross on it's face like I've heard most Colombians have.
Grayish until it's closer to the tail where an olive color is coming in.
Kind of rosy on the sides in the right lighting.
Extremely patient and kind.
Annnnny help would be incredibly lovely!
Sorry for writing a book!

If you could post a pic we could tell you for sure, but it is most likely a BCI.

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
I'll try to get some pictures up soon.
It's so frustrating not knowing,
and I've literally not even been able to find ONE picture online of a snake that was entirely identical to mine to be able to tell me exactly what type he/she is.

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
every snake is different
it is most likely a BCI because USUALLY even pet stores that get surinames and guyanas will list them as such.
but deff. post a puc when you get a chance and we will help you out

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
Here in the UK we have lots of problems with pet shops selling BCI as "True" red tails.
It is incredibly difficult to get hold of Surinames,Guyanians and Brazilian BCC's and if you can then alot of it depends on trust between yourself and where it has been exported from.
There has been a movement here away from the BCI morphs and into true locality Bci and Bcc. On the UK forums alot of discussions and arguments are around whether boa's are as pure as they have been labelled and morphs like sonoran anerys /leopards always bring up the same debate.
I always assumed that over in the states it would be alot different and pure BCC would be a lot more readily available without the controversy.
This thread has been really interesting to see that to some extent you suffer the same problems!

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
Pure locale boas are readily and easily available... just not from pet shops. I always advocate only purchasing quality, captive bred reptiles from a breeder you can trust. Pet shops, Craigslist, and shady dealers are the source of the problem.

Re: Is my boa a BCI or BCC and how do you tell?
I was going through old pictures, and found a few that might be helpful on this thread...
This is Gracie, a common Colombian or BCI boa...
.
.
And some BCC I've also had...
Male Suriname...
.
.
Adult female Suriname...
.
.
Yearling female Suriname...
.
.
Yearling male Suriname...
.
.
And here's a pure Sonoran hypo female, since that locality/morph has been mentioned recently...
A male BCI hypo male...
And a few of his kids...it's pretty easy to tell the hypos from the normals in the litter...
Hypos...
And normal siblings...
