Thermostat Questions
Hello all. I am a looong time lurker, first time buyer and I just registered. I just bought my baby a new 20 gallon tank from her old 10 gallon and I have some questions. I want to buy a theromstat to regulate and maintain temps. What brand or kind do you all reccomend. I want to alternate between lamp and heater sometimes, or whatever works. What do you guys reccomend?
BTW she is a baby BCI on her way to a custom enclosure.

Re: Thermostat Questions
I personally own 3 Spyder Robotics Herpstats thermostats (that was a mouthful lol). They work great, they are proportional so they do not turn on or off, though there is an option to turn it off. There are other nice thermostats out there like Ranco, Johnson Controls and Helix just to name a few. We specialize in Reptile heating supplies, heating products, Thermostats, Flexwatt, chlorhexidine, Herpstats Check that out. Matt is a great guy to work with!

Re: Thermostat Questions
Here's a link for you: THERMOSTATS
I'd recommend a UTH, as you'll struggle with humidity a lot less than you would with a CHE. We can get into all kinds of specifics if you're interested.

Re: Thermostat Questions
You will probably find that a standard glass terrarium will have humidity problems no matter what you do. They don't hold a good average humidity even if you take measures to restrict air-flow from the stadard screen top. While your guages may read an okay %, you will probably suffer periodic shedding issues.
The link in my sig will provide some re-directs to several prefab options if you're interested in searching out other options... or you can ask around the site for some plans and thoughts about building your own if you felt so inclined.
I can tell you that I have no humidity issues at all with Boaphile Plastics cages or the like. They are also easily stacked, easy to clean, easy to heat and attractive. Good luck!

Yeah I read that somewhere else. I only had issues with her shed when I first bought her. Other then that I get flawless sheds from her, 3 so far. I usually put a towels over half of the cage and keep a container of water near the light source along with spraying the tank. The sypress subtrate I use also hols moisture very well.
I was thinkinfor spraying the tank floor, then laying the bedding since it hold moisture so well, but I was concerned with infection/mold and nixed the idea.
