I have a question about growth rate / potential in an adult bci. 'Baby' is a male, whom we took as a rescue / adoption about 13 months ago. Based on what we were told, he is now about 9 years old. When we got him,, he seemed a bit underfed - he was thin, not to the point of emaciation, but definitely wiry for an adult. He was only 5'6", pretty short for this snake at that age. I was under the impression from what I've read, though, that the growth spurt pretty much ends after 3 or 4 years, and after that they won't get a whole lot bigger, at least not quickly. He has filled in a lot over the year, and he seemed to be getting longer... Well, we measured him today at 6'4" , which surprised us since that's 10" in just a year. Is this typical? Can he keep on growing like this? He eats 1 huge rat every ~14 days; maybe one meal in five he'll take two rats. Keepers of older adults, your thoughts?

HI,
You said He, and if its a HE it must be a hybrid of a guyana or Surname mix with a bci
all bets are off for the final size.
The snakes that are under fed for a long time are supposed to be stunted by the under feeding , thats why I think its part Guyana or something.. Does it have an intense red tail?

Actually, he looks more central american than anything -- his tail is almost all black, only a little bit of deep red flecking showing through. He fathered a big litter of babies last year, and they all look somewhere between central american and normal colombian, too. There was ONE baby who actually does look bcc-ish -- wine red tail, widows peaks, very clean pattern -- but only that one, of 23. On the whole, all signs say typical bci. But he's growing like a weed...

I now with females after they breed they sometimes have another growth spurt, maybe the same thing is happening here, plus the added fact that he is now getting more nurishment may be attributing to his recent growth. My guess is he will be the only 20' RTB in history at this rate.....j/k about that last part. I would just be happy that he is fattening up and acting healthy, but those are my two posibilities for his recent spurt. Good luck with him.
