One thought I just had, with plexi you can move a handful of substrate and get a quick visual inspection. Can't do that with tile or tile board. I think I might go plexi now.

I use tile board but don't think you would halve any problems with plexi what ever works best for you. Use the thinest material to get good heat distribution, and always use a thermostat with flex watt inside the cage dimmers just don't cut the cheese.

Wouldn't be alright to use tileboard bottom? Frame the rest with Melamine.
