Dumirels boa?
I am getting a new snake, and I am caught in between a Hogg Island Boa and a Dumirels boa (sp?) I was just wondering if anyone here owned one, i just wanted to know what there like. I have only ever seen one in person and it was just a hatchling. I looked at the caresheet and stuff on this sight, searched alittle bit. But nothing really talks about their temperment.
Which snake do you think is a better chocie for me? I allready have a 20 gallon cage set up in my room, but once the snake would get anywhere near 3 feet I would buy a new cage that day. I know that is much to small for either of these snakes i want.
Thanks for helping
ps: pics of your Dumerils and Hogg's are welcome!

Hoggs stay around 5ft and dumerils usually are 6ft+..Just i know dumerils get alot larger than most hoggs and columbians. Id say go with the Hogg.

thanks guys. I am very used to having large snakes around. I dont really have a problem with feeding large rats/other mammals, and i certainly dont have a problem handling them. I saw on a site earlier today the dumerils boas can be kinda aggressive, is this true?

Ive heard the same thing about the Dumeril but with a little love and patience I believe that they will settle down.

My experience has been that dums are very skittish and bitey for like the first year, then magicly one day they arent. Some arent as much, but they definitely dont have the temperment of say a BCI. I dont have experience with hogs, but, dums are also prone to getting very heavy bodied/overweight, they can stay lean if you dont power feed them, but Ive seen lots of breeders, and pictures of animals that just have.. rolls. I like them alot, but they can also be tempermental feeders. The neonate that I kept from my litter, still refuses to eat for me, Ive force fed her twice, which she kept down, but shes still very... stubborn haha.

My dumerils boa has never tried to bite/strike at anything but a mouse or rat. he is gorgeous and very docile. Keep in mind that dumerils like to borrow in the substrate, so if you are wanting a snake that is always in plain view for your viewing pleasure... I hardly ever see mine anymore unless I take him out from under the aspen shavings. just my 2 cents.
