Full Moon Feeding?
Yesterday was feeding and I noticed something that happened that never did before.Beauty is a sweetheart..she is probably one of the only snakes I feel most comfortable around..she falls asleep inside my shirt and is just a darling..her and Samson..both are reg BCI
So usually when I put the rat in the tub shes on it so fast, and has no problem eating it in front of me..this time I put it in there and she just hovered over it, and while I was feeding the others I noticed she was watching me. So I was like what is she doing? Well she was guarding her rat and when I was leaving the room I saw her strike at the tub..and she wouldnt eat until I left.
Why all of a sudden so protective? I guess shes just growing up..and the Suri did the same thing..crazy day..was it a full moon...lol

That is strange. Has anything changed in the herp room that could be causing them to behave different than normal?

sounds like pretty normal behaviour to me, my adult female bci always checks out ther rat before eating it and she is also very sensitive to any movement outside her viv. What your suri did is totally normal its not defensive, i think its more to do with there senses are swamped with the smell of a rat and any movement they will react to. they tend to strike any anything when in hunt mode. My bci has struck the glass once about a year ago when she was 6 feet long and made quite a bang on the glass sliding doors so im a bit more carefull now. It also depends how you feed obviously if they have already started to consume or constrict the rat they wont take any notice of you. I delibrately dont intice my bci to strike at the rat as she is quite large and its easier just to throw it in there and let her find it. On the other hand i always feed my royals with forceps as i prefer to know they have taken the rat and i have had almost no feeding issues this way. Basicly its nothing personal just instinct.

Dont think that there is anything going on special there. Possible its just a growing thing. My girl will pass rite over her food for a while and is more interested in what I am doing in her cage.
