I grabbed this off of Brent S. profile as an example. What does this mean? I am a computer person so when I see this, all I can think of are versions of apps.

How can you own 0.0.2 Ball Python? Is this dealing with how many owned, ages of the pets, etc?

That's standard terminology for showing the number ans sex of herps.
.
The first digit denotes the number of males, the second shows how many females and the third shows the n umber not-sexed (normally babies).
.
So 1.1.2 snakes is one male, one female and two sex undetermined. 0.0.2 is therefore 2, sex undetermined.
