Aspen bedding for small redtails?
.. yes, baby boas here get Aspen from day-one (actually, they are born on it).. They start in shoe-boxes because many baby redtails are stressed by large enclosures. After they have fed and pooped the right stuff and shed again they move up to the rack.. here's a photo from just now that demonstrates exactly how I set up small redtails...
.

.
.. there's a run of 3" heat-tape at the rear of the rack. Sometimes they will burrow under the substrate, mostly the hide-box is used when they are in shed. At about 3' in length or age 1 year the hidebox is no longer provided. They get fed right in the enclosure on the shavings. Practically all of my Boas are started and raised this way. There has never been a problem with the use of shavings. The boas are calm, in perfect health and flawless.
.
That's a Suriname boa, about 25" long. More reading on this subject at this link: http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/care_raisingboas.htm
.
Have a great day!

I just replace the old reptibark with aspen in all my snakes homes.
Maybe I am imagining things but they all seem to be happier more relaxed.
I think I will stick with aspen from now on. Besides if Gus uses it then it must be good.

I personally don't like aspen much because it is so dusty and it molds literally overnight when wet.
I stick with newspaper.

After reading Gus's website I decided to use aspen and all my amarali seem to love it. Gus, how often do you completely change out all the aspen in a tub?
