Hide and seek, without the hiding...
In the past few days I've read a fair amount of posts and had conversations with regards to RTBs and how important it is to have proper 'hides' setup in the tank.
Since I brought my RTB home on Saturday, she hasn't been in either of the hides I've put into her tank. She usually crawls up to the top corner on a wooden structure I've placed in the tank, and rarely leaves it. Never been in the hides, and I don't think I've seen her touch the ground of the tank once.
Think this will this be an issue?

There is a warm side and a cooler side, she tends to prefer the cooler side. The average temperature in the tank is about 86.
The bedding is a brown astroturf (recommended to me by several local RTB owners).

I don't think there is cause for concern other than getting an accurate measurement of temps on both the hot and cool sides. If the average air temp is 86, then the hot spot may be too hot. This would cause your snake to shy away from the basking area and stay in the cool spots. What type of thermometer are you using?

The thermometer is just a cheap one I had laying around the house, one of the thin strip ones... Someone suggested an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer would be a good option, just haven't been to a hardware store to pick one up yet.
