Has anyone ever seen this?
How about this one?
Has anyone ever seen this? I have a Peruvian Red Tail female. She is 8 years old this year. She was born here. This year I bred her for the first time. She is 6.5' long. She bred just like she was supposed to. She ovulated "by the book". She ovulated March 26th. She had her P.O.S. on April 12th just like clockwork. She is due July 26th. That's tomorrow but there is one odd thing I have not mentioned yet. About a week ago I noticed she was turning opaque. Two days ago she was at the peak of "opaqueness". Fully opaque. She looks perfect other than this one tiny little "not by the book" little discrepancy. She ate throughout the pregnancy like most of my females do. She has lost a lot of weight up front like the females that have good litters always do. Her backbone is sticking way up as she looks perfect, absolutely perfect to deliver a nice litter of little gems. All except this opaque thing. Now I think she will shed in three or four days, take a little poop and just have the babies right there but who knows? I and she have never been here before and I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to one of their animals before.
What are your predictions?

Now, the gravid animals that are due soon are not fed. This though most would happily take a rat of two. So I worry they will do something wrong or that in the excitement of smelling all those

I'm confused Jeff, what is your position here? You state that females that are due soon are not fed, but in this post you say that they eat throughout the pregnancy. Which is it? When our females are gravid, they tend to regulate themselves. We offer food and they chose to take it or not, but we always offer. Granted, they are arboreals, but shouldn't the same rules apply?
Just curious.

I feed till about six weeks before they are due. However, the question is regarding a gravid female turning opaque when she is due to give birth. I just have never seen this one before. Very weird.

Did you get babies?
Where the babies born while Mom was still opaque or before she shed?
Did the babies come at about the same time that she shed?
If not how long after the shed were the babies born?
How many days after the POS?
Lots of questions I know. I am really curious what your results were. I am a nervous Nelly here worrying about her and those kids.
Thanks!
Jeff

Opaque and due to give birth update:
I had a female Peruvian Red Tail I posted regarding the fact that she had turned opaque while due to give birth. She was due July 26th and shed July 28th without having given birth yet. I have never had a female go through a she cycle when she was actually due to give birth. A first time for everything I guess. I'll have to add another chapter to the Boa Breeding thing. Anyhow, on July 31st she had 13 wonderful little Peruvians! She gave birth on the 110th day after the POS. Peruvians are my favorite. I just love these little guys:
I left Mom in with them to see what she would do. They were three days old before I removed her. She just hung out to protect the little guys. Nobody was smashed. They would all hang out together. Generally with the babies between the coils down in where I could not see them. Otherwise I would have been able to get some good pictures of them. As it turned out, it was really neat for me to see how they acted. Mom and babies were all in the same spot together most of the time. Very cute! Now I can't wait till they shed!
